I purchased a 77' FJ40 from Northern MI. The PO installed a Western snow plow to clear the long drive to their property. The plow is in excellent working order. I have no use for the plow and I planned to remove and sell the plow. My mechanic has some interest in the plow to use to clear his shop parking lot. If I sold to my mechanic I would agree to a value and barter his labor towards future work on my vehicles. What is the value of this plow complete with controls in good working order? Any feedback would be appreciated...

it's worth a bunch more heading into the winter than in March.

I don't know $1000-1500.

have you checked craigslist for similar items?

I did check craigslist and ebay but I only found parts not complete units. The same Western Mark III pump alone I have seen listed from $600-$800 but I have not seen a comparable listing for a complete Western plow setup with mounting, pump, blade, lights and controls.

New MSRP is probably right around $5000. and discount sellers may get as low as around $4200. alo new.

It's a good plow setup so I think if I were in your area I'd hold close to $3000.

Think about whether or not you want to be locked to your mechanic arguing about how much every little thing you want him doing is worth against something he's already got from you.

I'd take it home and get it off the truck to put for sale. Right now there's probably someone poring over CL in hope of finding a decent complete plow.

Thank you for the info and I agree, I can see the issues coming to agreement with my mechanic about what I expect him to do in repiars against something he's already got from me. I will be selling the plow out right.

Couldn't agree more with @honk on this. Sell it out right and keep the transaction clean.
I have my paint guy wanting my 71 in exchange for painting the 75 I just picked up. I told him he may not be in business by the time I get around to painting the 75. The 71 will be sold out right and the cash will be used for paint.
Clean and simple and no one gets their feelings hurt.

Old thread but have one of these myself. I had this stored in my garage in Phoenix for years. Thought I had it sold to someone in Flagstaff last year but I guess life happens and stopped answering my PM and text. It was for a season in Flagstaff before the owner moved back to Southern California. I bought it from the person who bought the 76 FJ40. I have owner's manual and controller.
