Well, they say you cannot feasibly keep a car forever, and they are correct.
This was my college graduation present to myself in 2008 at 35 years old. I am the third owner, first owner was a lease, then 2nd owner had in in Virginia. I brought it to North Carolina in 2008, then Indiana in 2011. It had 130k miles when I bought it, so 57k miles in 17 years. Was my baby and daily for a 6-7 years, then the tow/fishing/hunting vehicle for the last 10 years or so. Last few years, had another truck, so she sat. Life, kids, other cars (E36 M3, Escalade) happened. Time flies. I will be very sad to see her go.
I know this truck inside and out. It may look like a tired, clapped out project, but it has good bones and runs and drives great. It needs a lot of deferred maintenance.
I baselined the crap out of it after I bought it. Check my post history, I was on it. I was pretty anal and ocd.
I did the following:
all new belts, hoses, pesky heater hose, blue fan clutch and high viscosity fluid mod, fluids, tune up, brakes, rebuilt front end, new u-joints, rebuilt calipers, t100 extended brake lines, rear axle service, etc.
I have always kept up with oil and fluids. Always ran Rotella T6 5w-40 and either Toyota big or Wix gold filters. Mobil 1 in the diffs and TC.
Yes, original head gasket... and radiator too (but the D light works!) Never used coolant, always kept an eye on it.
It is not bad on rust, but there is some, I am mad I did not address the rocker when it was just the smallest little bubble. I tried to keep it washed after it saw salt.
It has the following: ARB Bull Bar
Warn M12000 winch with 85' of 14 or 16k lb synthetic rope, hardly used (NEEDS SOLENOIDS)
OME 2.5" heavy front and medium rear lift and shocks
5- 35" Goodyear Duratracs on 5 factory wheels (2010 date code, so old, but good tread)
Hella 4000s (one wide, one pencil) with 100 watt bulbs on Slee harness and relay on OEM switch
Headlights on Slee harness and relay with the bulb mod
DISCO MOD HARNESS!! for the turn signals, corner lights, and bull bar lights
Non-USA dash cup holder
Non-USA cdl switch (no pin 7 mod)
Non-USA fast idle cable thingy
Non-USA permanent washable air filter
Factory service manual
OTC rear hub special tool
Led interior bulbs
various parts
It needs the following:
Battery
Front brakes (one side is metal on metal, ugh embarrassed)
Front axle service (right side clicks when wheel cranked)
Major oil leak from valve cover, and probably other places
Rear locker does not engage
AC compressor is bad
Looks like rear axle pinion seal is leaking
needs a tuneup, oil change, fluids, cap rotor, etc, but runs very good, no codes, good power, no misses, smooth
Power seat gears both sides. seats all the way back, leave them there
Loose floppy mirror(s)
sunroof drains leaking need cleaned, wet floor, rust there now (mad at myself)
tires are 15 years old, but great tread still
driver's rear door window came out of track, pulled panel, and put window back, left unplugged. may be fine. Still have the door panel and hardware.
rear hatch power lock actuator, pulled panel to verify, still have panel and hardware for reinstall.
antenna mast is broken (damn kids)
radio cuts in and out (speakers not happy either)
smokes a bit on startup
exhaust is newer but y-pipe needs attention (have another y-pipe)

Feel free to ask questions. I'll to the best I can
Is it driveable home you ask? Maybe, maybe not (within reason). If it were me ... I'd just put a battery in it, top off the fluids and go. It stops, but one side front brake is shot. So take it easy. But, that is me. Your mileage may vary. Nothing implied. Use your judgement
