Welp. I lost my HG today . . .

. . . in my Suburban. I used to have a 6.5L and I had to change the HG in that. My 6.2L won't be much different. It's just time consuming. If I feel like it, I might throw on the Turbo that has been sitting on the bench for a year and a half.

I'll guess about 60K. It's american made!

It has 150k on it now, and it's diesel, so it should go a little longer.

Wow, that's hurtful...................you didn't even capitalize "American"

Completely turned off by the quality of Detroit tin crappola. Doubt I'll ever purchase a Ford, GM or Chrysler product.

You have just angered the gods Brett! :D

Sorry about the HG, but it does sound like the perfect time to bolt on that turbo. There is no way I could have lasted that long with the part sitting staring me in the face. I am way too impatient for that. :D

Wow Brent, I had no idea you were so anti American Iron.

Quality sells IMHO, and I don't see it much from Detroit. Of my own cars - only one has been detroit tin - a 1979 Oldmobile Cutlass 442 and it started falling apart after about three years. I've owned since that POS a Mazda 626, Mazda RX7, MBZ 300E, Mazda Miata, Porsche Carerra and the Landcruiser. Only one of those that was a POS was the Porsche! Will never own one of those again either.

Current family cars include the Landcruiser, Miata (comuter car for me), Nissan 350Z for the :princess:, a Scion Xa for my daughter and a Scion Tc for my son. No detroit tin in my garage. I will admit that there's probably now alot of influence from Fix Or Repair Daily (Ford) in the Mazda these days, but there wasn't when I owned my first two Mazda's and they were both solid cars. We'll see how this current Miata holds up.

I'm still tossing this one around (as I have been for a while). I bought the Turbo for the Sub prior to buying my LC and since buying the LC, the GMC has been driven way less. I now use it more for hauling stuff around.

It's not in the best shape cosmetically, being an '84, but the drive line is strong and it's geared well. Almost everything mechanically has been rebuilt or replaced (surprised Brent?), including a completely new front clip due to the core support disintegrating.

I would love to have that extra oomph, but on the other hand, I could get $600-800 for the turbo system (read as: more goodies for the LC). It really depends one what happens when I get into it.

Yeah, tough call. Hard to deny one project to do another. Now based on the nature of our group and our forum I have to reccomend the Cruiser but I personally love all things mechanical and could see the cool factor no matter how bad the Suburban looks. :D

POS HG!

Ouch!

Well... it's time to give her pleasure and rub it from the inside :flipoff2::cheers:
For sure she'll like it very much after ... ;)
NO WAY I'd put that much effort into a crusty old diesel.

BTW: In the image above, you can see the water/coolant level mark just above the piston mid-line. For some reason, I didn't snap a picture of the rusty water when I opened it. It was obvious which cylinder was leaking.
