Normandy Park Wa. ........now in San Diego Ca.
Have been sweating changing the reg over from Wa. state to Ca. but was no sweat, in and out in 1 hr.. I guess maybe having it already reg. as a diesel in Wa. helped...

One more thing off the " sweat it list"

Tell us more details! This was a conversion vehicle gas to diesel and the ref had no issues?

I have a 93 350V8 mated to my 4 speed in an 1985 60 and no go with the ref. Granted that was before I registered it out of state. Maybe I need to try again.

my experiance with ref's has also thus far not been plesant and i still have the stock everything. only advice i can offer is find someone else with knowledge and pick their brain. smog guy or something like that.

What ref?
I went to DMV 8am, went to the counter when my # was called. The gal says " everything looks good, you just need a smog cert." I said...its a diesel..... she then said, please bring your vehicle to the other side of the building....there you will find a man who will look over your vehicle. I did as she asked....waited there with my hood open, the DMV paperwork and my Washington state reg. stating "power D" he checked the vin#s, looked at the Wa. State reg. and put a "D" in the "powered box". I returned to the gal at the counter who presented me with a reg. till nov 2009 and a set of new CALIFORNIA lic. plates!!! Took me all of an hour. And if your in Ca....that alone is a miracle!!!

And yes......I converted the FJ to an HJ about 3 yrs ago

The Force is strong in you, Obi-wan. You just said to the ref: "The car is legal in California..." then he nodded and replied: "The car is legal... "

So........the DMV dude just looked at your engine bay ??? Did he touched the truck at all ???

If he didn't.... I should put a big nice sticker on my engine something that reads "DIESEL" and take it in....

Maybe I'll get lucky and get to drive a DIESEL VORTEC Eh !!!
Or is it VORTEC DIESEL ??

Glad to hear they did not sweat yah !!

He did look........didnt touch anything....complained about where the placed the vin plaque on the dash (3" lift and 33s didnt help much). Walked around a couple times...And yes it does say "diesel" a couple places...that would be hard to miss.

CA has no diesel "truck" smog provisions. If its a diesel and its a truck, you should be good to go. A ref should not be involved unless is a passenger car conversion. I discussed this at length with the AAA DMV vehicle inspector. He just told me its doesn't matter. All they check is to make sure it IS in fact a diesel and as long as its a truck, you are in like Flynn.

Well, to us it's a "Truck", but (now don't get angry), to the DMV, it's a "Station Wagon" ... Really.

DMV, in under an hr??...yes. the cruiser gods certainly liked their sacrifice. :D

we drive down to sd (pacific bch) quite often w/ the kids to visit the grandparents. hope to see you around.

welcome to so cal.
