...since my folks got me this bad boy for my birthday (which was almost two months ago, so please no "happy birthday"s guys :D). I had originally wanted the DIN sized Cobra, but the guy who recommended this one has worked with all kinds of radios all his life so I was inclined to take his advice. It's all good though, since my Tuffy has the slot to mount it in.

It actually works out since now I can mount my iPod interface in the space underneath my Kenwood deck :grinpimp:

I used to have the same one...
worked great, but the open weather of the 40 eventually killed it... :whoops:

Yeah the guy told us that it's MUCH more rugged than the Cobra as far as build quality goes. I've got to go back and find out what antenna I'm gonna want and have him help me figure out the best way to wire it, then hopefully I'll get it installed in time to do a couple snow runs this winter.

So let us know what antenna and where you mount it (and how, ie bracket). I sometimes drop my 30 year old radio shack cb in the 60..I use a magnetic whip on the center of the roof...totally sucks..but I can usually talk to other rigs that I can see on the trail in front of me..

I like that radio, I have one just like it. The shop I bought it from clamed that for 30 bucks they could improve it dramaticly, called it a (peek and tune)

Im not sure it it helped but it does work real well.

I used to have a Cobra with a linear amp in my old FJ40. The weather finally took it out. I could really reach out and touch people with that thing. It was real cool to be able to talk to people back at camp when out on the trail. The only proplem I had was at times it would cut out my fuel injection if I had it turned up to high.

Whoa no s***? Damn, guess I better be careful

Has anyone tried one of the hood brackets on a 60? I lost a huge mag mount (6" base) with awesome antenna and have a crappy $10 walmart thing on now (which is 40 bux at the local radiocrap for the same thing btw). The hood mount looks cool mounting opposite the radio antenna and gives you overhead clearance, but I haven't handled one so am unsure of hood gap and mounting compatibility on a cruiser.
