Two more leaks discovered.....

Oil pan gasket is leaking, confirmed it after I found a drop of oil on the cardboard I've been using underneath to track my success (failure) in the seal project. It's leaking near the transmission dust plate.

Also, the seal that seperates the case in which the speedometer cable attaches (transfer case) is also seeping. I will have to order one ASAP. Does anyone know the part number? It's the last gasket before the output shaft, not the shaft oil seal, rather the housing gasket.

The oil pan looks like it doesn't have a gasket, I just see white sealent that pressed out during what I figure must be facotry assembly.

Thoughts on removal?

PS...when I drop the oil pan, maybe I should be proactive and install and oil return bung for a turbo? What would I need?

I'm not sure, but this is what I ordered, that casting just after the gasket is what my speedo sticks into.

Moose;

If you use a very thin smear of silicone on that part, you'll elininate any oil seepage and you can reuse your old gasket.

Also, be totally sure to properly pre-load your T'case output bearing. It's easy to do it wrong, and make them either too tight or too loose. Changing the gasket may affect your final pre-load (which is adjusted by shims).

Well I pulled the oil pan, came off easily with just a tap on each side......

NOT!!!!

I ended up heating the entire flange with a heat gun to soften the rtv then slowly prying it down, starting at the corner where the engine-tranny braces are.... Eventually got it off, didn't bend it thankfully.

Cleaned it up, took the gasket surface to the bench wire wheel, and made sure the face on the block was clean as well. Wire wheeled all those little bolts too, got the old factory sealant off. Wiped all down with alcohol and used gasket maker sealent in copious quantities to re-seal everything. I hate this method, who knows if it's sealed until it leaks. I was careful and circled all bolt holes, used lots of goo...

Pan back on without incident, air tools are the bomb when you have 20 something little bolts.

Tomorrow I should get the t-case gasket from Toyota, along with my slave cylinder and clutch master rebuild kit...going on like two weeks of being painted with grease...fun...maybe oil tight by the end of teh day?...one can only hope.
