Welding

So, I've played around in the past and welded a few little things. I enjoy it so........at 36, I decided to take a few hours a week off work and I'm going back to school, headed to NOVA. Enrolled in their welding program to get some formal education and lab time. I have a pretty awesome wife to let me do this with 3 kids! I'm taking intro and arc for the semester starting in January.

Nice! I took Intro to Welding at the Manassas campus with Matt Wayman…..great instructor. I also took Auto Body welding at the Alexandria campus. I just bought a new place outside Warrenton with a workshop and i'm looking to upgrade my electric to 220V to handle a welder and compressor. I highly recommend these courses to anyone wanting to learn how to weld.

Yea...I got into ARC I, but the intro class I am #1 on the wait list . I email him every day and beg for a seat in the class as this is a brief window of opportunity for me with my work schedule....so...we shall see..

I wish I had the money for a Tig machine!! My next machine will be one of those all in ones.
I realy enjoyed my intro welding class we learned the basics of all the processes. Unfortunately it was 25 years ago. I have been meaning to take anouther welding class but like us all I have no time.

I have one of those all in one machines, though I've only used it for plasma, which it did pretty good.

I'll get some rod and tungsten and we can practice on a couple of aluminum project I want to get done.
Tig is not hard it's kinda like brazing with a torch. The setup is the hardest part.

I've got some stuff to do as well. Gotta get my swingout welded on. It's pretty awesome. I've only messed with flux core, sans shielding gas. If I mig the swingout bracket on I'll for sure need some extra passes. @reevesci build my swingout setup. He is an awesome guy and a heck of a craftsman.

The MIG/TIG class at NOVA is awesome. I took it twice. Not sure how it is with the new teacher. The and stick classes are good as well. The metallurgy portion of the stick class was really helpful (it may have been in the second stick course, it's been a while ). You used to be able to certify for a really low price at the end of the class. If they're still doing that it's worth it to try and pass.

Yea, the whole program is a year. 2 classes per semester. I plan on certifying if possible. Lot to learn.

I Mig welded my axle, roll cage, sliders, doors, and skid plate.
The Hobart 210 will burn in whatever you need to do, no problem.
