I have some H1 beadlock wheels that I need the centers cut out of and new centers welded in (I have the new centers already). Anyone know of someone up here in phoenix that can be trusted to do the job right, measure the runout of the wheel and all of that and produce roadworthy welds?

Not in Phoenix, but the only one I use for any wheel repair is Nu Wheel in Tucson. 800-689-4335 They're at Palo Verde and Ajo Way.

i have made sand rail rims be fore was'nt to hard , rolled the car had to cut centers out had to turn them before welding 6lug toy ????

I was hoping

After talking to you at hte last meet-up, I was hoping you would chime in on this. Are you coming to this Fridays get together at Sonic? If so maybe I will bring one to look at and you can tell me what you would charge to do it to a set of 5 if you are interested?

if they are six lug toy bolt pattern i have some drum spindles we could use to get them true. do you have your offset figured out ? what size rims? do the centers you bought fit in the rims now? or do they need to be trimmed ? my lathe is only 16.5 but they should be smaller than that!:bounce:

centers

The H1 wheels are two part beadlocks 16.5, so the outer part needs the 8 bolt center cut out, then the new 6 lug centers go in the inner part, with 3.5" backspacing (that should be where they naturally press fit, but will need to be verified) and get welded. Then I wrestle with the runflat insert in the tire, and assemble the two halves and an o-ring, and bolt it all together.... and just like that I have a wheel/tire. :D

3 of the inners are still stuck in the tires (being held in by the friction of hte stuid run-flats), but I am sick of trying to free them, so am about to take them to a corner tire shop downtown by my office and let some skilled people get them off.

And if you can hook me up with welding.... I will just have to sandblast and paint the suckers before I can reassemble and mount the tires.

ill hook you up then u be :grinpimp:

How much did the H1 rims set you back? Did you buy them from a supplier or a private sale? I'm very interested in how well this project works out.

private

got the wheels from a private seller on craigslist back in the summer. Dont really remember what I paid, I think it was $350 for 4 of the beadlocks I wanted (the 12 bolt version not the 8 bolt), and they came with 6 swampers I intend to sell as soon as I can get the dumb things off to partially offset my cost. The centers took a long time to find a source of stamped 6 lug centers. USA6x6 used to be the place, but they went under (good thing by most accounts of their business practices I have read). Finally found a guy on Pirate that is supplying them. Those cost me $275 for 5. So there are cheaper and less pain in the rear ways to get wheels, but I really wanted these.

I will be happy to post up pictures as we go. If justweldit is in.... I have no doubt that they will turn out great.

I gotta see the centers you're using. Can ya bring one tomorrow? Ive been looking for rims for months now. If I gotta make some that's what I'll do.

will do

I ill bring at least one tomorrow. I havent actually opened the box they came in... I hope they are the right ones!

heavy

I will bring at least one wheel and one center. I may have a lot more in the back of my truck too if I decide to bring hte tires in tomorrow to be removed fromt he rims. Maybe we could make that a party game at the meet; how many cruiser-heads have to stand on the tire before it unsticks from the rim.:D

I know that loading them in my truck hurts my back. But its hard to say how much of that is rim, how much is run-flat, how much is tire, and how much is old-man-syndrome.

see you guys tomorrow. Hopefully you all show up near the beginning, as I am old and tired and need my sleep.

A High-lift on top of the tire and under a bumper will usually unseat a bead. It takes the entire weight of my truck, I can't even imagine trying to do it by stomping on the tire.
