Hey all! Been away for a long time, used to be an avid follower and poster back in my 80 and 100 days. Then strayed to Mercedes, but came back with a GX470. It's been in stock form for a long time, and is now serving its final family duty as a learning-permit driver for both of our kids, but now I am getting close to finally claiming it entirely for myself! So hope to get back into the Toyota/Lexus conversations soon.

Recently tackled the cracked dashboard replacement. When the initial campaign was running for these, our vehicle did not exhibit any symptoms (probably because we kept it garaged all the time), so Lexus would not do the free upgrade. Sure enough years later it finally started cracking, gumming up, and crumbling apart. But Lexus NA told me I was now outside of the campaign period and they could not cover me (this is the great customer service I paid for Lexus...?). They quoted me $3K to replace it. I told them to pound sand, how much was the part on its own? Bought the new dash shell at what I thought was a pretty good discount, and tackled the job myself over the holiday break. I also took the opportunity to install a GROM VLine unit so I could use Android Auto with the touchscreen, and finally be able to use GPS navigation again. Cool thing was, the dash was shipped to the distributor in March of 2024, so I'm assuming it was fairly new production and not sitting on a shelf for the last decade. It sure looked newly manufactured. Gotta love Toyota. Here are some pics of the job.

Looks great! Did mine last year and it was totally worth it. Definitely recommend getting new dashes in while Toyota is still making them. Can't imagine them producing this part for too much longer.

@stoshzack - yes, very "therapeutic"...but actually not as hard as it might look. Just be careful about cracking plastic tabs on nearly 20 year old vehicles. One other thing I found was that during a past windshield replacement, the tech had over applied the glue, so I had to cut away some of the headliner fabric on the A pillar panels, and then glue them back down again. Likely they wouldn't survive another windshield replacement, but hopefully I never have to remove those panels again, in which case it wouldn't matter.
@Rednexus - totally agree, get it replaced if you haven't already!

Hmm, had a reply, but for some reason it disappeared. Anyway, I ordered it from a local Lexus dealer so I wouldn't have to pay shipping. They're online for around $700 at most dealers. I would probably avoid a third party source.

It’s been almost 8 years since I got my dash replaced at a Lexus dealer in mid 2017 under the campaign for free.

I park outside 100% of the time in SoCal, but I use a windshield sun shade about 75% of the time.

Its holding up great, so yours should also hold up for many years to come.

The replaced dash with a handful of other upgrades (BT45-TOY, Bluedog cup holders, vinyl wrapped carbon fiber black the wood trim, black leather wheel wrap, and lseat.com front seat leather) and the interior doesn’t feel as old as it is.
