Started up the cruiser this morning. Seemed a little strange when the starter kept kicking over when I had moved the key back to "on". Even more interesting when the starter kept kicking over when the key was turned all the way to the "off" position. After a few more seconds of turning over in the "off" position and it quit and has refused to repeat the weirdness. Any thoughts ??

probably the plunger sticking with the cold weather.
cheap fix like 45$ and r&R starter.

Too bad mine doesn't have one of those relays. That would mean I'd have a diesel right?? Anyhow we went out to Wilderville for some plinking on Waters Creek. Can't wait to get a few bucks together so Aric can do a proper tuneup on my cruiser. Seems to run as well as it always did- pedal to the floor to get up the slightest hills but 75 no problem out on the flat. ;)

Starter repair kit

Can't beat the price! You have to pull it to replace it, why not refresh it yourself and save some money for fuel?
Easy hour job, unless your Chris
Happy New Year!

Thanks Danny, got it ordered. Money, money, money, money. Never got enough.

Most problems I have seen with these starters is the contacts fry.
The Toyota Starter Clicking Disease can be solved by installing a relay in the starting circuit just before the solenoid. This gives full power to the contacts lessening the low amperage that occurs with the stock setup. When the contacts have lower amps hitting them, they tend to pit since they are not closing solidly. After time, they will click-click-click
Re-aligning the contacts so the plunger hits them flush will give many more starts :D
When you have it apart, clean the plunger bore of all the grime. It should be dry when you re-assemble. That is most likely the sticking you had.

Sounds like a plan once the kit shows up. When are you gonna grace us with another appearance ? Oregon always looking for another good Cruiser guru.;)
