Haven't 4 wheeled in a month - last wheeling was in mud.....

Cooper ST MAXX 255/85/R16 approx a little under half tread remaining.

Getting off of the freeway with my kids after going to a gun range - the tire gave way....

I recall no hitting things, scraping things - but yet I have interesting perpendicular tears or cuts and then a good portion of the tread came loose from the carcass.... There are 2 cuts that are obvious in the photos but further clockwise are 2 more cuts that don't show well in the photos.

I'm interesting in what you notice or what your experience has been like with something like this.

Thanks,

Jon

UT10-IA8-4018 - so late summer of 2018 if I understand it correctly

Any chance it was low before you took off? Or got low driving?

Generally heat creates most tire failures. Low air pressure, extended speed create heat then failure.

Possible it had a cut as next to the R on the first pic appears to not be so new of a cut and could have had bearing on the result.

I had 8 year old tires do similar. Two in one day after airing down earlier in the day. One was on Black Bear Pass so I thought it was from a sharp rock. Later the spare let go and it was barely used. I was almost back to Moab and it was an easy highway cruise. It just blew and shredded. How does the rubber look? Aged and dry?

No it really doesn't look aged
