So I have this key that I have been using from ACE hardware they cut it and programmed it with the only master I have. I went to start it and it would turn very little and would not turn to the first position. Tried several time taking the key in and out and locking and unlocking doors and finally after letting it sit for 20 seconds the key turned all the way over and I tried starting it a few more times after that and succeeded. Is my problem the off brand key? I am worried one day I wont be as lucky and it will stay locked up. This was not a situation where the steering wheel had become locked u

It could be a few things - maybe the replacement key was not perfectly cut, thus not being exact for the cylinder to allow you to turn the key?

I have been using the key since march with no other issues. It always opens the doors fine... Just saw another thread where guy said the relay could be bad so I might just replace that too

The chip in the key is not what allows you to turn it. It provides a signal to allow the truck to start.

I have several keys with no chip for my hundred. I tried to start the truck with one once and it scared me. I use them as hideakeys.

Since you say you have been using the key since March and this is a new problem it could be the ignition cylinder. There is a thread on here explaining how they can go bad in the 100 preventing one from turning the key .
