Spent some time today conditioning the leather and after, sat on the tailgate and had a nice beer! Let it air out with all doors and tail open.

After a few hours i closed all the doors and tailgate.

Few more hours later I am in the garage and I hear a faint motor noise, like a neighbor is running a small air compressor... but I realize its coming from inside my garage!

Narrow it down and it sounds like its coming from under the spare tire??

I verified all the car doors are closed and the ignition/aux mode isn’t on...

Finally I open garage so I can open tailgate. It goes up and then i lower the gate... sound stops!

I closed the gate and hatch and its dead quiet!

Almost feels like that little motor that ensure the gate is fully closed got stuck thinking it had to do something. I opened and closed it a few more times and it doesnt seem the worse for wear...

Anyone experience this before? Anything I should check/inspect?

There is a pump for the evaporative emissions system in that area, and it will run periodically even if the vehicle is off. If you aren’t seeing any check engine lights it’s totally normal!

It will sometimes wake me up if I’m sleeping in my truck when camping. Beyond that people don’t often seem to have problems with them.

Wow! Ok so just dumb luck I walked into garage when that was running. Any idea why opening tailgate would cause it to stop? Or again just funny timing on that too?

I would think coincidence but I guess it’s possible the vibration caused a pressure switch to trip.
