Does anyone know the weight difference between aftermarket 16"x8" steel wheels and the stock 16"x8" alloys?

never seen steel wheels.

but I would guess 2x's the weight of the stock wheels

If you find any steel wheels that will fit the 100 let us know. I've been wanting a set since I bought my 100. I think somebody found a wheel company that would make them, but they were going to be expensive. I would love to have a set of steelies and those LTB's that Tab has. That would be bad ass on a lifted 100.

Stockton Wheel can make these for about $150 each:

Dan can probably get some OEM cheaper than that

I didn't know about steel wheels for the 100. Now I do.

Damn, where were these when I bought the "spare and powdercoated" LX470 wheels?

This is no secret. I've had at least one thread on steel wheels since I came to this board.

If Dan can get oem cheaper then where is the price?;)

OEM steel wheels are not offered in North America for the 100. The 16x8 OEM steels for the 80 weigh 43 lbs each.

Thanks Dan...next question: What do the factory 16x8 alloys weigh?

:crybaby:

and here I was, thinking Dan could get us *anything*... :frown:

I see OEM steelies on Aussie eBay sometimes--the only problem being shipping.

So we are back where we started:) Too expensive to ship from AU unless doing so in bulk. If a vendor (hint hint) contacted Stockton Wheel then the price may go down if it was a larger order.

then the debate is if steel is better than factory alum? In my book no. also Fordge aluminum is way bettern than steel in my book also. Never had a problem yet, but maybe I do no wheel hard enough yet. Steel will cost you money in the extra fuel you will burn spining that dead weight. Later robbie

I want to be able to run a 4-wheel set of good traction chains if necessary (there is minimal clearance with stock alloys/offset, 285R75/16" and the upper control/A arm now. I thought by going with steel for my off-road set I could use 1/2" spacers, with the thinner steel wheels, and not have to go with bolt on wheel spacers, etc. and therefore alter the width stance/offset/backspacing minimally.

Just thinking it through right now...I appreciate everyone's input. Although it would still be nice to know what the factory cast(?) wheels weigh.

They weigh 18.5 kg (40.8 lbs for non metric folk) for factory 16 x 8 steel rims

How much per rim are you guys prepared to pay for them landed in the US, and how many do you want? if there was big interest and good dollars I may try to help you out but as they say "time is money" and I would have to be paid as well. The other thing is getting hold of them is hard, sometime they go cheap and sometimes they are extremely expensive, I have heard they are over $300 new.

So...if the numbers are accurate for steel and stock alloys the weight difference is negligable. I like the Stockton program...custom off-set too. And, well cheaper is always better, $150 for custom wheels doesn't sound out of the park anyway. Compared to $400 each for hi-zoot bling bling Weld's these days.

Thanks for all the numbers...I think this is the way I will go...
