Was getting oil stains under my LHD 1988 22RE 5 spd 4X4 pickup even though the motor is currently out (orig. chain guides made it to 150k!).

Chasing it underneath I found the sensor in the attached photo on the driver's side of the trans is dripping gear oil. Tried finding out what it is and had no luck asking Dr. Google or searching here. Is it safe to pull out and throw in a new gasket/oring?

While chasing drivetrain leaks, might aswell ask about the rear diff (ref. other photos.) Pretty sure pinion is partially to blame. Not sure if the rest is drain plug or if I need to pop the guts out and replace the RTV. Any recommendations?

Thank You,
Chris

trans is the I reverse switch. just r&r.

typically with a pinion leak, you have a pinion bearing dying and the diff needs gone through.
