Sweet! You bringing it on Sunday? I have wanted to check out one of those radios.

I used hamtestsonline to study, and it took me about 2 weeks to get to the point I was passing the practice tests for technician. (Pre marriage and kiddo) I had another couple weeks to go before the exam session so I studied the general material and got both in one sitting. That site makes it easy to study the things you have trouble with and phases out the questions you get right consistently.

As a reference point, if that handheld is 5w output: I talked to a guy on top of baptist Montclair from my house in meadowbrook on simplex (no repeater) and he was on a 5w handheld. Crystal clear full quieting. Sounded great.

4 watts. I'll bring it so you can try it.

Pre - marriage and kids is the key, it does take some studying and I didn't do enough of it - got 25, needed 26. I'll check out the hamtestonline.

That cheap handheld is tempting - I passed the test almost 2 years ago but have yet to spring for a radio. I can vouch for Keith's ham test method. He convinced me to take it before our Moab trip and after maybe a week or so of occasional practice I was flying through the questions. The site makes it almost like a game and you start memorizing the questions pretty quickly.

Was slightly off on the site. This is it:

$25 + 8-10 hours pretty much guarantees you'll pass.

End threadjack... back to your regularly scheduled camping thread.

Check out Private Section for Route..
Again if you can't get in to private
Send a pm to Matt bhmmapping
Send me one as well and I will get you the route in pm.

Lemme hold one of dem Hello Kitty radios for ya.

I said meeting at 9 I meant leaving at 9..
So plan on pulling out around 9...
We will meet the second group at the Walmart in Sylacaga around 10.

Leave at 9? So I'm guessing no late night partying on Friday then.

I don't think we can leave you...

Well being the only grandpa in the group late for me is nine after all. At least I think I'm the only grandpa.

We'll plan on using CB ch 4 on the way to meet you guys, and ch 8 if there's congestion or something on 4. If you guys could use the same plan that way we can figure out where y'all are to meet up once we get close.

If anyone wants to use 2M Ham, hop on 146.460 simplex.

I'll have both on in the truck.

Are you meeting us in Bham or sylacauga?

Paging Kieth... Where's the bacon?

We are in route, Keith says save some food!

Matt my phone works here so just call in the morning.

Any updates? Did this turn into the Donner Party?
