Looking for a nice sunroof deflector for my 99 LX. Have some travel planned for this summer and I don't want the little one blasted, but I love to have the sunroof open. Found this one from autopartswarehouse.com It's a Weathertech.

1998-2006 Lexus LX470 - Weathertech Sunroof Wind Deflector

Anyone had any experiance with these? If so anyproblems with the roof rack as far as clearance issues? Thanks.

i like it; it actually might help me with my rattle problem! I get a rattle with high winds at a certain speed.

Looks like the one I took off and threw into the trash.....

DMX84 - Hmm, why did you take it off and throw away? Personal taste as far as the look, or was there some functionality reason?

I had one on my TL and it was great, loved the open roof without getting constantly blasted.

i got a free one off a hummer and i like it and with the roof rack ,ski box ,tent etc i dont know its up thare.

It came with the Cruiser & I liked it at first, but its rubber seal starting working its way from its grove. When I took it off to repair the seal I noticed what it was doing to the paint. It doesn’t get very clean under it and is a big area for neglect. After driving with it off I licked the added openness and the increased air flow.

licked the added openness? lol.

Im not for those "deflectors". If you want to open your sunroof to get airflow open it......if the wind bothers you then shut it, pretty simple.

Both my 80s came with them. I took one off because the rubber was eating into the roof paint. Suddenly the truck was amazingly quiet, that thing had been making a lot of wind noise. I still have one in my basement, getting ready to purge my 80-series stuff though.

So my thoughts are that it'll eat your roof paint and increase wind noise.

It will eat your paint so extra care should be taken to take it off and wax the paint and lube the rubber from time to time. I never open my roof on the highway because of the noise and having had one on a nissan 240sx, I can tell you it will be quieter.

I was thinking the plastic piece that pops up needs to just have the holes fillled. That piece doesn't make sense to me because it catches the air instead of forcing it over the top.

Looks like the one I installed and then took off and is now sitting in my basement.

Thanks for all the imput. I have decided not to purchase at this time. The damage to paint worries me. When I lived in AZ I would not have worried about it, but up here in Spokane with the road chemicals I worry about the de-icer getting stuck in there and eating my paint.

Thanks for your help!

I think you'll be happier in the long run, and $70.00 richer! But if you want to try one sounds like a few people have them laying around.....

I have one I just took off my 2000, paint looked OK, but I didn't like the looks of it on the truck..but its in perfect shape if anyone is intersted...didn't notice much noise difference after I removed it

I had one as well. It was on the truck when I got it 3 years ago. Took it off yesterday and the paint is a bit worm underneath. That sucks! Never liked the look, and I can't seem to notice a difference in wind noise.

This sort of deflector would probably help tame the rattle in the built-in "deflector" thingy that pops up when the sunroof is slid open.

(Very annoying at highway speeds, that built-in deflector rattle...I was thinking of rigging something to stiffen it somehow.)

Anyone else try one of these add-on stationary deflectors? Further comments? (especially on the potential paint damage concern?)

I had the Toyota branded sunroof wind deflector on my LC. It was noisy, the rubber base wore a bit into the paint on the ends, and in the middle the rubber base was loose enough to let water seep through. Later the seeping contributed to additional wind noise. I was pleased when I took it off - it was quieter and the wind in the cabin did not seem that much different. I put it back on when I sold the LC. I have absolutely no intention of having one on my LX.

I just removed the Toyota Factory one on the new to me 04 LX470. It was creating all kinds of wind noise. There is a TSB about this. Bottom line is that it really doesn't fit quite right so the rubber seal works loose in the middle. As suspected, the paint was worn down to primer on both sides and really chaffed in the middle. I would not buy another one.

And I don't think it is just due to age, since I saw (on the detailed Lexus service records) that it was in the Lexus dealer 3 times for wind noise and wind deflector issuse the first three years. Doesn't really change the look for Black anyway as it blended in pretty well.
