Never will forget. Lost 2 good friends I grew up with since 1st grade. They both were in the towers. Each year I go back east and get together with 3 of my buddies I grew up with forr 3 days in honor of them playing games like stickball, wiffle ball, ping pong in honor of the guys. we usually do it this week but other things came up for a few of us but will meet with them mid October.

Thanks for starting this thread Steve....means alot to me

It was so hard for us to wrap our heads around something like this happening. Lets hope it never does again. Thx Steve for the thread

I hope it never happens again, but we're told daily about how it was America's fault. We look at things that don't matter and ignore the things that do. We are a stupid country in so many ways. Fly in or to the United States and it's a joke. We take off our shoes, while El Al (Israel's state-run airline) the guards carry M4s and if they don't like you, or you are arab-looking and of military age, you just don't get to fly. And you don't like being profiled? Well tough s***. You can use another airline.

^ Heard this as well. Most secure in the world from what I understand. All vehicles don't get close without being checked. If a bag is left for a second it's almost a lock down.

Terrible day in our history and will never forget.

My dad was still flying for United Airlnes, his flight that morning was from LAX to BOS that's Boston Logan Airport. He was notified just over the Rocky Mountains to put down at the nearest airport no questions asked, my dad is a retired Air Force Fighter pilot, he knew by the directive and the radio chatter what had happened.

My brother in-law was an F16 squadron commander, their first flights up they were instructed to take any action necessary to remove aircraft that didn't respond to the directive to put down immediately. It was only many years later that he told me the first flights up were not properly armed.

This story stuck a chord with me. As we elect our next president, I have to wonder if either of them are equipped to handle anything like George W. Bush had to. The choices are the proverbial rock and a hard place. We already know how the former Secretary of State performed or rather under performed. The alternative seems very unpredictable.

God bless our men and women who serve this great nation, we are forever in their debt.

Good thread. Let's also not forget that just 4 years ago, a US Ambassador to Libya was killed along with 3 other Americans in his protection detail in a terrorist attack set to coincide with the 9/11 anniversary, while our administration did nothing and chalked it up to a video being released which incited riots.

Anything but that, as it turned out.

I'll add my little portion to this. When I was at the Naval Academy, I had 2 kids that I helped out from a physical fitness perspective. Darin had an older brother who was a gifted athlete and very intelligent who had gone on to be a pilot after leaving the academy. His brothers plane had a problem and he ended up dying in a crash. His parents didn't want to lose their other son, but Darin wanted to follow in his big Brothers footsteps. He promised to do someting "safe" . He went to the academy and it took him 2 years to be able to get through the Physical fitness tests without struggling, but he did it. Graduated and took an Intel job. His 2nd duty station was at the Pentagon where he couldn't be any safer, and he was back near home since he grew up in Maryland. I love that kid. I have felt guilty ever since that day. If I hadn't helped him, he wouldn't have made it though plebe year and would have been sent home. His parents are still devastated, and have been interviewed by multiple shows and media outlets.
