Our little mut has spent the last 3 or 4 hours in a "mood" and now he's been acting like he's in pain.

Does eating cat s*** out of a litter box cause any sort of digestive issues?

I hope so, cause he hasn't gotten into anything else that would cause alarm.

Got the girl here trying to convince me to take him to the animal ER. Well, he's still breathing. He's aware of pain and doesn't take well to pressure in his lower back and lower abdomen.

I think the little cat s*** eater should at least try to sleep it off???...........

I hope.

My Queensland would get backed up from eating cat s***, chew toys or whatever he could find. He would just lay down and act sad. Not move at all, and whine if I pushed on his tummy. We usually let him go like that for about 12 hours and if it didnt stop take him to the vet. They would take x-rays and say, hes got a blockage, give some ex-lax stuff and wait. Did it about 5 times over his lifetime and then one finally killed him. Just remember that doggy vet at wee hours is $$$$ sometimes.

The litter attached to the cat s*** might cause a blockage?

Does he eat? Dogs won't eat if they have an intestinal blockage.

Eating cat**** can transmit parasites (hookworms, tapeworms) if the cat has not been dewormed, but it wouldn't be an immediate thing.

Yeah, that was a telltale sign. Hoss wont eat??? WTF?? Then you knew something was up.

man my dogs eat locust, other dogs crap, crickets, flies(for flyfishing), chocolate...so far nothing has ever killed them...made them a little sick yes but we've never had problems.

I'd really keep an eye on the pup. It's sad to see them hurt.

Everytime it happened I would gently massage him tummy, with slight pressure. Thought it would help move stuff around you know? I think it helped and he seemed to enjoy it. Maybe got his mind off the pain or it did help. Course Im no vet, just seemed to make sense.

from recent experience, if he's not eating or drinking, could be major issues -- i would take him to your vet this AM -- hope he's well soon --

-- and one of my best dogs makes a hobby out of eating poop -- i try and stop him, but he's often quicker than i am --

TJ-

Not to sound flip, but if he stops breathing, it is too late to take him to the ER...

I wouldn't wait. Dogs don't show their pain very easily - it is not to their advantage in the wild. Their tolerance for pain is very high.

He may not be blocked with kitty cookies or litter, but he may have flipped his stomach, or partially flipped it. Gas builds up, tissue dies. If so, you do not have long.

Impossible to say without an x-ray.

If you want to keep this little guy - bring him in - pronto.

Keep us posted.

Good luck

I hope he is ok. I would take him in just to be on the safe side.

Its odd how dogs are, the little terrier mutt we have now is not a s*** eater. He avoids the litter box and wont pick up his own turds.

But elk and deer poop? Likes to chew it like bubble gum. Uck!

Well. He's not dead.

Acting like he's either got real bad gas pains or [oddly] a muscle sprain in his hip. Hard to say because he doesn't react poorly to pressure anywhere in his abdomen or lower back.

BTW...this dog is a TOTAL puss. When you call him he's still excited by has a limp like he tweaked his right leg?...??....

We'll see...................not spending $600 to find out anything yet......

I would second Pablocruise on the flipped stomach. Happened to our dog one night and didn't think anything of him bloating until the morning and he was still whining and panting. Took him in to the vet and they did surgery right away and said if we'd waited any longer, he would have been gone. Its always better to be safe than sorry. Think about it, is possibly wasting $700 now worth keeping your pet for many more years? Take him in and make sure he's ok.

Take him ASAP. Most vet calls are $40 or so to get an idea what is wrong. You ar enever locked into paying hi fees at a vet until you know exactly what is wrong and get a good idea of the cost.

It could be somthing cheap and simple that can get much wors if not looked at. If he wont drink or eat he is sick.

My previous roommate had one of his boxers get into the garbage.. garbage largely comprised of bacon-grease soaked paper towels..

Totally blocked him, to the point he needed surgery to remove the blockage.

Vet said if it happened again.. the first thing to do at home is to feed him some "pumpkin" from a can, mabey half a can for a med sized dog. Not as hard on the system I guess as laxetives but with the same effect...

It's probably not the cat s*** that did it. What kind of cat litter? Find out and read the package. I bet some of that stuff is nasty, especially the kind that turns hard when the cat pees in it.

Good luck, I hate seeing dogs in pain.
