The Isspro probe I mentioned in the above post will not fit in the thermostat housing. I had said it would because I bought a new thermostat housing last year from Toyota (to have a good spare) which is slightly different and the probe does fit.
So I will be putting the probe in the head.

Well, I made a boo boo today.

I ended up cracking the lower t-stat houseing where it bolts to the front of the cylinder head as I put a breaker bar on my 8 pt socket trying to remove that square plug. And didn't even get the plug out.:frown:

Now Im in need of the 85 lower t-stat housing that I know is going to be tough to find. I hope 4wheelauto has one.

Back to the subject, how about using the port on top left of the water pump? The plug came out nice and it accepted a M16x1.5 fitting I had. Anyone use it before? I appologize in advance if I have missed it somewhere among the threads.

Dave at Japan 4X4 got me a brand new one from Japan...nice...really nice. I couldn't get my plug out either.

So I finally installed my mechanical water temp gauge in the head. Filled rad up (brand new recored, 4 row rad), dumped coolant in heater hose at firewall until I saw coolant rise in rad a bit. Started truck with cap off and let it run with idle up. Temp climbed to about 220 F then dropped down to 180 fast, then started climbing past 190 again.
Thermostat should open about 190 correct? That would be 88 C.
Do I have air in there? Or thermostat need replacing? Thermostat might be about 5 years old.
Try and run it again tomorrow and see if more air in there?
Suggestions?
Thanks!

Answered my question, there was still air in there. Now the gauge goes up just past 190 and then drops down as the thermostat opens, pretty cool!
