So its been raining all day here in socal. My truck stayed outside whole day at work. Upon return, i noticed a puddle of water in the passenger seat foot bed.i noticed the water was coming from here (the opening where the wiring is under glove box. See first pic. After some investigation, i found these 2 wet sections as well. Any idea where the water is coming from. Is the rust in the first pic a major concern?

Clean the sunroof drains.

The leak at the roof grab handle coincides with sunroof. Just open the sunroof and clean the drains (youtube got good videos). There are 4 drains one at either end. Front two are easy and is always getting clogged. I clean the sunroofs in my LC and 4R at least once a year and lube the tracks. I hate sunroofs....!

IF there are corrosion at windshield edges, it can leak too, but easiest is the sunroof, try it first.

Is there a way to dry the carpet or just let it dry on its own?

Also, my windhsield is aftermarket and I have read that a cheap install can sometimes cause leak too.

Pull the plastic trim piece on the floor near the door. Lift wet carpet by hand, introduce air source of your choosing...I stuck a leaf blower in there for awhile...

But can I leave it alone though? Or it will smell? If it doesnt I dont mind just leaving it alone and dry on its own. Will the watermark on the roof go away or not?

I just crack the windows and let it air dry after rains. Smell goes away in a couple of days 🤷🏻‍♂️

So i just checked both front drain holes of my sunroof and it seems okay. Water goes out directly underneath.

water probably seeping through between the sunroof glass and the plastic piece that attaches to it (then rubber gasket around that). I put a bead of silicone in between them and no more leak. you can confirm by looking up when sitting up front and seeing water dripping from the plastic trim from the sunroof (this water didn't make it to drain holes and would land on the headliner, down the A pillar and then to the floor in my case).

Makes sense too. Thanks. This happened when the truck is parked all day in the rain. I drove it one time when it was raining hard and didnt notice a leak.

the 100 series windshield is notorious for leaking, especially at the top, even if it still has the factory glass. I have injected black silicone in the areas I've found over the years using a curved dental syringe like this

Amazon product ASIN B01C5HDZVQ.
If it's not the sunroof, remove the a pillar trim, the visors and map light assembly so you can drop the headliner a bit, then have someone put a water hose along the top of the windshield until you can see where it comes in. I've had success with silicone but I'm sure there's something better out there that's more like urethane and can seal when wet.

A few thoughts here, check rear drains too, if you were aprked on a slight nose-down incline water could migrate to the front. Don't poke too hard, take your time, if they are clogged you risk pushing the tube off the nipple and then you would need to disassemble the headliner to reattach.

Since you;re in SoCal it's possible the sunroof seal is dried up. Use Shin-Etzu to re-lubricate and moisturize the seals. Avoid getting any in the sun-shade slider rails or it won't open smoothly anymore. AT-205 brushed on the rubber would also physically swell them up a bit. You can check our signature link to find either product on Amazon.

For windshield sealing if you think it's a minor leak, you can buy Flowable Silicone at auto parts stores which is very thin and when you apply it, using something like the syringe offered above, and it will then flow into various crevices that normal, thicker silicone would not.

Leaks into interior, are more than a nuisances. The worst are ones that come down the "A" pillar. The water often gets into electronic. Then we get electrical gremlins, strange stuff happens. Then as water dries, the gremlins go away. But over time, damage is caused by water. Like rust, mold and oxidation on electric contacts. These do not just go away.

Finding and stopping the leak is very important.

We see three general leak points:
  1. Sun roof drains clog, they need cleaning. They can also have a hole in drain tube or tube can come loose, which runs down "A" pillar..
  2. Roof rack bolt holes. This happens often when aftermarkets racks installed. If vehicle parked with front just slightly higher than rear, water flow to rear.
  3. Windshield area leak. This is very common, when windshield replaced. This is due to improper install, which most are. It makes no difference if OEM or aftermarket glass is used. This leak, over time is very damaging as it always leaks down "A" pillar. No matter the angle vehicle at. I've never seen a factory installed windshield leak, even in a rust bucket.

yeah, I didn't see water when I was testing w/ a hose or even when it only rained for say an hour or 2. it took some time for the water to find it's way past the glass and plastic, usually over night. I had already changed the gasket prior thinking that was the issue and also cleaned the drains but still had water intrusion. just something to look at in addition to the other spots to mentioned above.

My passenger side had water building up. Couldn't clean my drains as my sunroof was inoperable. Ended up just using some white caulk around the entire sunroof. No more water.

Yeah its been crazy here in SoCal, my 100 also leak, but from the rubber gasket. I put duct tape all around it as a temp-fix.

All hoping I can get someadvice to fix my leak. I've identified the entry point at the screw in point of the sprung frame piece that the front of the moonroof sits on. Water is getting in through the mponroof into the center track that moonroof slides on and that center track is not meant to take water. See pics. I was thinking to apply some reviews or silicone at the mounting points but I'm bit sure that is a good fix. In trying to figure out why water is making it into the image track instead of draining into the outer water channels that feeds the drain holes. Any suggestions to a proper fix is greatly appreciated

More info. I think I found exactly why wateris making it into the center track.... one of the POs cut the fiberglass lip that acts as a barrier between center track and water channel on both sides at the side rear. Left side seems to be cut more than right so there is no lip to prevent water from spilling in to the center track.

Anyone know if this is a replaceable part?
