Propaganda Watchdog Alert: "THRILLCRAFT" The new term for Off Road Enthusiast

Here is some info from Stacie Albright, a proponent to keeping abreast of Land use Issues with the Blue Ribbon Coalition. I encourage all to check out. It look to be the latest attempt to sway non land use people into believing that all motorized travel is bad, and every tire that travels off road is going to forever ruin the environment. Watch the video - talk about one sided propaganda!

Thrillcraft
I'm sure that most of us have already heard about the dastardly 'thrillcrafts' that are out there destroying our public lands. The book "Thrillcraft" goes above and beyond pushing the environmental agenda and bashes any sort of off road vehicle use. Be prepared to get mad. Go here for more:

Howdy! Yea, the crap is just going to keep getting worse. There is also "The Responsible Trail Alliance", which is about as green as you can get. They want the Feds to just lock it all up and throw away the key. The Saturday Republic had a big story on page A1 all about Fossil Creek. It is getting huge PR about going back to nature, etc. I think it will only be 3 -5 years before most of it is closed off. Enjoy it while you can. John

Don't install a 2-stroke in your Land Cruiser...check

I only saw a picture of one Jeep on their site. It seems they are targeting 2-stroke powered rigs. I don't see how they could prohibit street legal vehicles from accessing most areas. Don't they already issue RV type licenses in Cali?

Who is going to fund the enforcement effort?

I think the goal is to eventually close all public lands to motorized access. A battle I believe they will eventually win. They are better funded and better organized and have a way of getting the general bleeding heart publics attention.

Devils advocate:
4 wheelers, OHV'ers, snowmobilers, jet skiers etc, can't even agree to like each other, let alone get together and campaign and put out PR videos. Seriously, how can we justify (to the general public) our need to have motorized access. Why? Because it's a free country? Well that doesn't mean we have a right to drive around in the wilderness and pollute and disturb nature and unnecessarily waste gas (a finite resource). I think, for the most part, those who don't participate in motorized access, will side with the anti-access crowd.

What I'm getting at is that I believe that we WILL lose access eventually and that even if all the motorized access groups could get together and fight, it's to little to late to change the tide. I give it 20-30 years tops before there is no place in this country for a Landcruiser.
Sad, but IMO, true.

By that time (20-30 years) cars won't have steering wheels anyway. I think they just need to wait for transportation to be completely automated and gasoline outlawed to get what they want. I don't think that scenario is as far away as we'd like to think.

Howdy! It has already happened here. As of Thursday, all ATVs, Quads, Dirt Bikes, Sand Rails, Rock Buggies, and dedicated trailer queens, will need a $25 decal from Az Game n Fish. Actually, most of the smaller rigs are now running 4-strokers as they pollute less. This will not have much affect on land access, but the $$$ will help fund enforcement of current rules and restrictions that are ignored. Might get interesting. John

I agree with the hippies to a point... but a complete ban is ridiculous. I'm willing to bet 90% of the people out there are perfectly fine with low impact off roading (what ever the **** that means) but the other 10% wants to get drunk and attempt suicide on a quad - or at least destroy as much of the wilderness as they can before they get hurled into a large rock. that's the group these guys are focusing on.

But hey, if it weren't for off roading, what else would the dirt farmers publish their books about?

we need to create a REAL off road alliance - not some trumped up hikers group

 being a thrillcraft owner i didnt know i was so wrong in my recreation , it makes me mad that we have laws on the books to enforce off road abuse yet i dont know any one who has recieved a ticket for driving on a muddy road , i do know of a guy who got a ticket for roosting on his dirtbike on the back of crown king , when hunting in colorado a few years back it rained hard on us an we had to leave the truck 3 miles from camp and walk back from fear of a ticket that cost 5000.00 a mile ther is a law on the books here but they dont right the tickets. in colorado they wrote 3 milion dollars worth of tickets the first week end the law was in effect

That's it. I'm selling everything and living in a cave.
This video has convinced me that I'm evil, reckless, too rich and too fat.
I'm awful and deserve to be euthanized. :frown:
