Toyminator, have you talked to Collier about going down one of these weekends? If not, I'll drop him a line and see if he could maybe get a Sunday off or something. I know he'd have a blast there too. I've also got another buddy over in Illinois that would go with enough notice. He's got an 86 Truggy that runs on propane. It's a nice little rig. Between you, Collier, and my buddy Dave, you all would have a good time. I can see if anyone from MWJT is planning on going down either of those weekends as well. Several of those guys know the park pretty well and are down there pretty often. I'd offer to show you around but I've only been down there once myself.

Yeah. He still has a bad clutch and a broken birf from the last trip to Flatnasty. I'm supposed to help him change the clutch next week. I think James and Christian want to go too.

I think the Jeep Think guys are plannig a Valentines Day run on Sat the 16th but I haven't heard about Sunday. Heck with all the snow I want to go now!

I know! The snow makes it more scenic and MUCH more "interesting", that's for sure. I'm interested in checking out your rig sometime too. If you're down around Collier's place tomorrow, Saturday, or anytime for that matter, drop by the dealership (Ackerman) and stop by the parts department to say hey.

Yeah, I forgot about the Valentine's Day run that MWJT is doing. Honestly, I have a blast wheeling with those guys. They give me crap and I give it back....and then we all go wheeling. I led one of their groups around Hannibal last year for the Valentine's Day run. We had a ball.

I may be at Colliers Saturday night. I have to work all day in Soulard and then go to Hockey game after that. If I have any energy left I'll stop by. I used to work at Ackerman about 15 years ago. Its change a lot since then though.

Ouch. Did it bend any valves?

After driving it awhile it started getting a bad valve clatter at around 3k rpm. You got me thinking maybe I should pull the head and check it out. Everything appeared to be fine untill I started lapping the valves and found #4 intake valve is bent. There were not any marks on the piston or valve that would suggest there was contact between the two. I should have it back together by next weekend depending on parts.
Thanks for making me think.

It happened to me a long time ago on a 4Runner I had only it bent 7 valves. It should run way better after you change that.

PEN ME IN: I am definitely going Feb 17th. I canceled an overnight float on the Black River to bounce around the countryside with you all. Looking forward to it.

Narrow roads: My PS door and fender are dentable (replacements in my garage, haven't gotten around to putting them on), so as long as I stay to the right, I'll be fine.

WFD, good point about daily driver.

Only 13 more days. . .

Joe

Probably both. the more hardcore group on the 16th. Mostly FJ80s on the 17th because some of them can't go on the 16th.

I got it back together and the new valve springs quieted down the rockers quit a bit but the problem has got to be coming from the bottom end, now it sounds like a diesel under certain load conditions. I can't afford to do anything about right now so I guess we will just hope nothing happens before i can fix it. I am still planning on going on the 17th.

I'm out for the weekend run. The engine is coming out tonight for a rebuild of the lower end, the rod knock is just too bad.

One of these days I will be able to make one of these runs.:bang:

If you have any interest I have a source for a complete running engine. We may still be able to get you there yet.

Ok everyone. I need a roll call for everyone that will be going to Was hita on Sunday the 17th.

Here are the plans. We will meet at the Mcdonald's in Pevely, MO. at 7:00am. Its right off the Hwy Z exit ramp from I55. We can either eat breakfast there of drive to Farmington and eat there I don't really care. Wfd175 and MoJ will probably take a different route and meet us there.

Just post here to let me know who's gonna go.

and?

I went to Was hita today with a friend of mine. Here is my assessment of the park. I think that an FJ80 could fit on about half of the trails there. You would still need to be careful (trees mostly). There are no roads connecting the trail systems there are just easier trails connecting them. I think there is one trail that leads to all of the scenic spots that an FJ80 could fit on.

Unfortunately there is still a good 3-4 inches of snow covering everything down there. When it warmed up this afternoon some it started to melt and everything started to get really sloppy. I would imagine that after tomorrows warmer weather combined with about 50 Jeeps that are expected there it will only get worse. I would be happy to still go down on Sunday but you guys neeed to decide for yourself if you still want to go.

Meteorologist Moj says its supposed to rain on Sunday too so that may be another reason to cancel. My friend had the only camera and he's camping there tonight so I don't have any pics yet but I'll post some when I get them.

I think I'm out. wfd175 sounded iffy as well when I talked to him tonight. If he ends up going I'll ride down with him. I'm bummed...I was ready to wheel somewhere new.

Last weekend, I hear a new knocking sound. I'm going to have to cancel and wait till warmer weather to clean it up and figure out what it is.

I think the bearing is out on the fan pulley. It's always wobbled a bit, but now is really loud. Also, I believe I've got an exhaust leak at the manifold.

Next time.

Here are some pics from Wash i ta. Dirtoyboy and I had the whole park to ourselves on Friday with virgin snow.
