Was the diesel still an option in 1988 in Canada?

As the title says I'm looking for an answer to this question.
I know that in the states the diesel was discontinued in 1986, and I know that Toyota continued selling them in Canada until at least 1987, but I can't find a specific answer as to if the diesel was a factory option in 1988.
The reason I'm asking is that I found a 1988 4wd Reg cab for sale, with low KM's and a decently straight looking body.
The seller doesn't know if it's an engine swap, and isn't near the truck until later in the week (he works out of town) so I can't get him to grab the vin for me to figure out for sure.
It's a 4 hour drive to go look at the thing, and would do it if I could be reasonably sure it was a factory diesel. However, if it is certainly a motor swap I don't want to waste my time. Mostly because I have seen more hack job motor swaps then I have seen good ones.
Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

my '90 was a factory diesel....

my '90 was a factory diesel....
OK where did you get that
That wasn't from North America was it?
Nice truck, but I'm still wondering if 1988 came with a diesel option in Canada.
There are a lot of imports around here, for reasonable money. But I would much prefer a LHD truck, diesel if possible.
At this point I'm thinking of making a red-eye trip to find out if it's a factory diesel 4x4 because even here they come up for sale... never!
You would have better luck finding bigfoot

Canada is a good place to see a bigfoot /yeti. You could have a double wamby on your hands.
I know...
Which makes this really hard. The seller, though he seems honest just doesn't know the first thing about toyotas. His knowledge is basically I put diesel into this thing and it drives.
As of now I would really like to know if I'm dealing with a possible factory diesel Toyota engine in a 4wd platform, or if I'm dealing with a engine swap.
If someone could tell me with certainty that yes a 1988 pickup came with a diesel option in Canada then I'm getting onto a greyhound with a TIC and going to look at the thing. If it certainly wasn't a factory option then it's not worth my time.
Maybe if it's a swap, then maybe someone did it right, and it's a reliable safe to drive truck... going from experience, most engine swaps are hack jobs, that come with a nest of bugs to sort out before they are ever good for daily driving...
Someone help me... as of right now I have the cash in my pocket, I just don't want to waste my, far more valuable time chasing dragons.
