Hey guys. I picked up a new to me 2010 GX460 this weekend at a local Ford dealer. The truck seems to be in really good shape, but they did offer me an extended warranty under written by Ford for $2400 for two years and 24,000 miles. The price seems a little steep to me, but I’m not as familiar with the 460 platform as I am with GX 470’s. Are there things that I should be concerned about around 130,000 mile mark, and do you feel as though I should self insure or by the warranty? Thanks.

Nothing major, although someone just posted that their fuel pump when out and it was just over a thousand dollar bill.
Read vandir's post about his new GX460 and having to replace the fuel pump: My new fall collection - 2010 GX 460 Premium
That repair alone was a little less than half of what they want for a warranty. Just saying....

My 2c: if you're worried about repair costs, put $2400 bucks in a savings account for two years. That warranty won't cover things that fail as a direct result of not doing maintenance, so your chance of needing $2400 in repairs is pretty low.

I was thinking self-insure is the way to go too. It’s a base, so the air ride liability is moot. I just wasn’t sure if there are SAIS issues like the 470s, or any other really predictable problems (cough...exhaust manifold...cough). Sounds like there are fewer issues.

You gotta remember - the only reason they're willing to sell you that warranty is because statistically they know they make money on it.

If it were a Land Rover, my answer would be totally different. :)

This is great info to have. I’ll check in on it via the Lexus portal, but I don’t think I saw it there before. And bonus...free tank of gas!

Are there other TSBs that I may qualify for? Anything for mediocre leather? ;)

From Lexus Driver Portal -- looks like it already happened. And bags have also been done. Alas, my dream of free gas has evaporated... I should have known someone had messed with it, seeing as when I did the Uni-mod the foam insert looked tip-top.
