Likely expenses…considering warranty? (1 Viewer)

I had to replace my door lock actuators for the front doors soon after I bought my GX, but they were only about $100 each and there are how-to's on youtube.

The biggest ticket item would be the tranny, however given your MY and mileage that looks to be low risk, especially if you proactively change the fluid prior to 100k. Plenty of threads about this for you to research.

At 137K miles. Had zero issues with accesories. Truck is solid.

The 3g cell connection in my radio never worked but that's ok.

This is a great help, thanks for the detailed reply. While I do think the extended warranty would cover me if my radiator and/or water pump went out and if the valley plate leak occurred, it’s not going to cover all of the preventative stuff that you mention wanting to do soon, fluid changes, stuff like that. Also, i think it will only cover a new radiator if mine fails for some reason, it won’t cover a new one if I just want to replace it due to age/mileage.

It seems like my risk before 120k miles is mainly with radiator/WP and valley plate. If I had to do both of those, I’m probably less out of pocket than the warranty cost. So I still toward cancelling the warranty.

How often are folks have weird electrical gremlins or issues with the more high tech stuff on these? Also, little stuff like door lock actuators/sunroof function/window motors….people seeing issues with these before 120k??

Don't let people scare you on the valley plate gasket thing, keep your coolant fresh and avoid overheating and you'll never likely have that issue. And even if you do have a leak the likelihood is it'll be a tiny microscopic leak that won't turn into something worse unless you run it low or dry of coolant. A catastrophic failure of the valley plate gasket is just not common--especially if you are on top of your coolant age and levels.

As far as the last bit, no hyperbole, I've literally never heard of any issues with the door locks, window regulators/actuators, and or sunroof mechanicals. Yes as with anything manmade it can fail, I've just never encountered hearing about it. @xychromosome is literally the first person I've ever heard have an issue. Now sunroof seals and drain clogging yes, which like with any brand vehicles with sunroofs water intrusion from power washers and automatic car washes with a clogged drain can enter in the cabin and run down the A-pillar hitting a multitude of modules and such. I'd be more worried about clogged sunroof drains than the mechanical or electronic stuff.

I guess I'm just unlucky then :)

When I first got my truck, the actuators were the first thing that I had to address and IIRC was how I originally found these forums. There were some existing threads about the same issue and I assume it's common enough to warrant the threads and youtube vids out there addressing how to fix them.
Bottom line, if you do have to fix them, it's a cheap fix and not difficult.

I waited 15k miles to so my valley plate. Watch your coolant levels, it's a slow leak that gets worse over time.

I'd get the warranty, my wife is tuff on her cars. Excessive braking and take offs. She downloaded some kind of driving app other day and it told her she was the one of the worst drivers in the program  So now it's like catybar the door with the driving jokes and there is no arguing - she knows. Between a daily woman driver and a weekend off road warrior I'd say it's going to get more wear and tear than most. :)
Please share the name of the app. My wife is a an on/off driver with the throttle. It drives me nuts so I'd love to mess with her. :)

I have about 102K on my 2014. My valley plate went somewhere in the 80s. It was leaking for almost a year before it got bad enough I had to fix it. I repaired it myself. No issues with it since then. About 10K later, my radiator went out so I put a new OEM unit in myself for about $450. Mechanically it has been great other than that.

My sunroof didn't want to close a few weeks ago. I don't use it much but it has always worked before. I was able to find a diagnostic mode to get it close. Haven't opened since.

The only other very small issue is when I go to get in the drivers side, I sometimes pull the door handle before it unlocks completely. I can't get the driver door open after that without reaching over from the rear or passenger and manually opening it. After that, it works normally. I think that's happened 4-5 times in the last few years. Really a minor issue.

I had to replace my cargo door lock mechanism at ~120k. It would work about 1/4 of the time and when it didn't work, the car would try to unlock or lock 4 or 5 times.

I had an OBD module to auto fold the mirrors at the time which also rolled down the windows after 3 unlock presses, and of course it rolled down the windows when the car was covered in snow.

Needless to say, I removed the OBD module and replaced the lock mechanism shorty after.

When I bought my '13 (with 33k miles on it) a couple of years ago, I got the warranty just because of the valley plate. I may never need the warranty (it's good till 100k and I'm at 49k right now), or it may happen after 100k, but I feel better about having it if needed. I did have to use the warranty once already.
