While doing the frt axle service I inst new rotors\pads because I thought the others had slight warpage. The only symptom I had was uneven braking power right as I came to a stop. The best way to describe it was a surge\release in brake power the last 20 or so feet under light braking. In the past when I have had warped rotors (other vehicles) you could feel it in the steering wheel. Long story short new rotors\pads have the same feel after 200 miles as old?

whats my problem???

Bad grinding technique?

Seriously, could be a sticky caliper generating heat and warping rotors, bent hub could do the same.

From your previous thread you have something going on that aint right.

Might want to consider getting a dial indicator on a magnetic base and seeing what is warped

I dont think so, I have read way to many other threads of people that can not get the 100 pads+ "NEW" oem rotors in (no grind) to think that is a problem.

What I was looking for from the board was feedback on how their warped 80 rotors acted. I know most do not advise turning them and thats why I just rpl mine. The problem is slight and my wife has no clue on what I am even talking about BUT after dropping $150 on new OEM rotors I expected it would be gone.

well my rotors were warped due to the po having new rotors put on and the ace mechanic not installing the hub properly. Yeah my warped rotors shook the hell out of the steering wheel and I finally replaced them. Sometimes I get the sensation that you are still plagued with. It feels like brakes aplied...release...aplied...release and only right before you come to a complete stop right? Don't really know what it could be but I could guess that my hub or bearings took some damage but I don't think it'd give this problem. I think it's more just new pads and rotors...I don't drive mine much so let me know if your's keeps doing it.

Look at your rears. That slight brake-release-brake is a trademark of the rears being warped or having a poor surface (not properly bedded after installed). If you did not feel it in the wheel this further supports my suggestion. Fortunately, the rears simply come off after the wheels are removed, so they can easily be turned slightly by a good brake shop, or replaced with very little work on your part.

Zipastro, one quick question, do you have a lift? Also, did you replace the front rotors only?

Reason i ask is this: i also had warped rotors, shook the hell out of the steering wheel while breaking, then i got a lift. So the break shake was compounded with a pull to the right or left during braking (especially bad during hard breaking). CONCLUSION: my caster was off from the lift, had nothing to do with rotors. After i replaced the front rotors the shake was gone, but i still get a pull sometimes to the right and sometimes to the left when i stop. I contribute this to caster.

Also, i didn't replace my rear rotors. So i'm thinking that the slight pulse i get (as bear80 stated) is from the rear. BUt it's not bad at all so i just let it go. I'm probably the only anal person who even notices it.

Rear rotors!!!! That is probably what it is.

I knew I would regret giving the garbage man my old front ones.

I never thought the rears would get a enuff use to warp (10-20 % stopping power?)

One last question to chew on, If you upgrade to 100 pads for more stopping power don't you throw off the designed balance of frt and rear braking? With the new 100 pads you rears will be doing even less work?

The answer to your last question is yes, the system balance has been changed a bit in ways it would take instrumented testing to determine. There is no way to state conclusively what this does, which is one reason I recommed against it.

As for the garbage man - no worries. Your old fronts do not fit on the rears, so no harm done.

Another issue with lifts is that the fronts get even more work unless the rear proportioning valve positioning rod is modified, as the system interprets a lift by directing less brake pressure to the rear brakes.

I figured that, but I gave him a perfectly good set of fronts I thought was bad
I feel $150 running down my leg

You're not alone.

I've had the brakeing problem you described, though lately it hasn't shown itself. I also have a caster that's a bit off though I wasn't planning to repair that for a while yet. I think I'll have to advance that now, though I really don't understand how that can affect my brakeing. However I've changed my master and all the pistons, flushed the system 3 times and changed my front rotors and all pads. I guess I'm ready to try something else.

I have had the same probs, as described, I have changed the front rotors, but always felt that it was coming from the rear, after front rotor change, the juder is thill there, At the moment I have been looking on ebay for some rear rotors, will suffer it till some come alomg, I'm not gonna pay £200 for the proper Toyota rotors, I will get cheap ones and then think about turning the originals on a lathe....
