WARN M8000 won't Freewheel (1 Viewer)

Went to do a winch pull today and I could not get the freewheel lever to move to the freewheel position. It gets stuck about 1/3 of the way down. Fortunately it can be moved back to engage drive and the winch can be used. Does anyone know what the problem could be or what the best approach is to get it fixed?

You'll probably need to take that side of the winch apart and clean everything out don't try to force it you'll end up buggering it up even worse. If you've had it in water or muddy slop chances are it's got some crud in there binding it up.

I had the same problem and this is what I found. ;p

It was an easy fix and works great now, 10 years of faithful service.

Deep water crossings never help.

Thanks guys, the cruiser did sit in muddy water up to the winch a few months ago. It has been working fine since then though. I'll take it apart and see if I can clear the gunk out of there.
