I just purchased a used HS9500 and disassembled, cleaned and re-lubed everything. It is working great, but I'm not sure how to properly set spring load on the brake.
This is a cam operated brake and the spring is twisted by turning the cam before inserting into the drum. This spring applies a force which separated the cones and applies the brake.
But, I can't find any instructions on this procedure. I found a few Warn winch rebuilding links that either ignore this step or state that no twist is required, which I think is wrong.
I didn't take any pictures before reassembly, but this link shows the same type of brake from a 9000i. http://www.wanderingtrail.com/Repairs_Rebuilds/warn_winch/warnwinch.html
the brake is toward the end of the link and you can click on the pictures for a larger view. He does not add spring pre-load during assembly.
I can call Warn on Monday, but would like to complete this weekend.
