warb hub replacement for a hzj73 auto hub

Hi all this is my first post on the site as I just got my self my dream machine which is a mwb 73. I have been reading all there is on the replacement of the auto hubs to a pair of warn hubs and since mine are not working I went ahead and got the warn hubs, and the lock washer and other 54mm nuts to lock drive shaft, but they don't alien with the feather on the wheel hub, even if I were to remove the feathers, which would make sense as that's the only way I can get all 6 bolts to alien. they don't seat on to the wheel hub as the outer tubing on the outer shaft holding the drive shaft is to long. any help will be much appreciated.

The best hubs are the manual hubs on the earlier versions of the 7* series or what oz has till now:D

What are feathers?
Are you using a spacer ring, this goes in between the freewheel hub and the main wheel bearing hub. approx 14mm thick
As for the the feathers they are the two short studs that are there to help take the load of the 6 nut's.. As in the picture it is called a 7mm dowel. I think what you say is right I think I need a spacer to fit these hubs. I don't like spacers may be I should go looking for a pair of Aisin's in the junk yard...

actually the dowels take the full load, the bolts hold it together is all...

on FF rear axles we Canucks have been having a bugger of a time keeping the axles together. the meat around the dowel gets "stretched" or worn and the bolts shear off.

we have found some conical wahers that when compressed properly work well to keep the bolts from loosening... the real fix is to drill out the old stud holes and install a larger stud.

old blue, got a part number for that spacer?

I just heard a very interesting story about the FF rear axles and why some have trouble with them, it made sense to me, but not sure if that is the issue. Now I have never had an issue with them but maybe this also explains why.

I was told that when RTV or gasket sealer is used and not just the paper gasket, this is when the problem starts, that because the RTV or sealer prevents the axle from being mated properly to the hub as one unit, that it eventually works the axle flange against the hub and wears the area around the alxe holes and studs causing the continuing problem of them coming lose and sometimes breaking.

I have never used RTV or sealant and have always used the gasket and I have not ever had a problem so I this may also support the reasoning on what happens.

Any thoughts on this??

hummm, makes sense in a weird way. even thought the siicone is just thin it is still a lubricant of sorts...

I think it is more of the point that under load the RTV will compress or expand where the paper (gasket material) will not change. At least that is what they were saying.

After previous experience with a stubborn Dana 70 the sealant was banned and the factory gasket was used it took 12years of fxxxing around to figure that one , Dont worry guys I had a LC during those years also.
