I understand what you are looking for. Have you considered looking at "lesser" vehicles that you can pay less for and use the difference to repair what needs work? Most of them need paint, many need an interior. Both of those jobs are not hard to do. Just food for thought.

That's a great point. I've definitely expanded my parameters a bit to open up a few more options, but honestly people are pretty proud of their 80s (rightfully so!) and I just can't justify buying a worn rig with 200K+ for the prices I've seen them listed for. I've seen some 80s sell on here and listed on Craigslist that would be perfect, but unfortunately they sold before I started my search or are half way across the country.

My main goal with this project from the start has been to find a reliable DD to take some of the load off my 4runner, so I'd really like to find something that is at least in as good a shape as my current rig (which is relatively clean). Re-doing the front leather or fixing some worn out clear coat is alright, but I don't want to pour thousands into a cruiser just to get it to baseline. I think there are a lot of good cruisers out there I'd love to have, I just haven't found one yet.

Just posted on CL, anybody in the area familiar with this rig or seen it around the Triangle? Not a lot to go off of in the ad, e-mailed him a few questions and will definitely take a look this week if things sound good.

Unfortunately the ad has already been deleted (in less than 24 hours) and none of my e-mails have been responded to. Either it set the record for quickest Land Cruiser ever sold, it was some sort of scam, or he's revamping the ad with more info and planning to re-list. Given the apparent shape, low miles and close location I was hoping this one might be my ticket.

The saga continues. Found a great cruiser, clean with diff locks and 150K - the deal was completely ready to go thru, but unfortunately there was a title issue that the seller is having trouble resolving so I've gotten my deposit back and am still in the market.

As always, any leads are appreciated!

Tym's is listed back on Clist.... it was the white one in reidsville posted early in this thread
I know its got more miles than you want and not a desired color, but it looks like a good truck with a head start on the build. Just a thought; will keep my eyes open for more.

I have a truck if you are interested:

1. 1997 40th edition with 160k miles
2. OEM aux tank
3. OME 2.5 lift.
4. Sliders
5. ARB front with winch
6. Slee rear carrier
7. New tires
8. All OEM parts for anything on the vehicle either bought from me or CDan. (Some even installed by me).
9. TRD supercharger
10. HG has been done.
11. Meticulously maintained by a doctor.
12. Located in LA. Has lived either in the south or in the southwest it's entire life.

It has been babied.

If you are interested, let me know. It is not my rig

I wiuld trade my truck for this anyday

Agreed, sounds like an awesome truck! I followed up on that one, unfortunately it's out of my budget (but very reasonably priced considering all the work that has been done) and I really want a stock 80 so I can do the build myself - that's the fun in my opinion.

The one in GA sounds promising, still getting some additional photos and information before I make the haul down there.

After a little more investigation found out that the 80 in GA spent almost 11 years in Maine, the rust could have been worse but was still pretty bad. It had an exhaust leak between the cats and a leak in the rear heater hose, had debated on going down there next weekend anyway if the two items could be cleared up but they sold it today for 9K. These things definitely move quickly!

You may have done this already, but have you posted a want ad on Craigslist yet? I've had good luck with that when I was looking for a Wagoneer. Get descriptive about the condition, mods, mileage, and budget that you're working with. And post it in all the cities within a reasonable drive of you. Chances are, you'll hear back from someone who's about to get but-raped on their trade-in value. Your budget will be a welcome option.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually have a wanted ad out there, but just on the Raleigh Craigslist - didn't think to put it up in multiple locations. Just added a few more to other parts of the state, maybe something will come up!

The Land Cruiser stars have finally aligned I think, I've found an extremely clean 1997 40th Edition, sage colored with lockers. It's got 146K, very clean and has been maintained by a Toyota dealership most of its life. Stock except for a Scion headunit, aftermarket door speakers, and the running boards have been removed with factory front flaps added (may have come this way from the factory actually). A few nicks and dings as would be expected, but if all goes according to plan I'll have it in the driveway sometime next week.

I'm beyond thrilled with this find, thanks to all for the help and I'll post pictures when I have it!

lucky man....im green
