I was thinking it is time to consolidate and I really like 60 series rigs. Want to trade my 1973 FJ 40 for an exposition styled FJ60.
Some musts with the 60:
Not a basket case. Strong drivetrain preferably rebuilt, V8 or low miles rebuild. I need to be able to drive this daily from the time of trade. No work required to be reliable.
SOA with 33s a plus but could deal with a lift and 31. (tires must be in good shape and have lots of miles on them).
Clean and straight body and interior and I do realize there will be a few rust spots but no major cancer (I don't want to have to do a lot of work to make the inside decent...it doesn't have to be perfect, just all there)
Roof rack is a must (Con-Ferr type and close to full length)
Ready to drive across country...meaning no work needed to keep it running from the start I will have to drive up to Canada and back once a year. Normal maintenance excluded
MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE LOCKER IN REAR. IF NOT, I would need to take at least the rear one out of the 40 and put in the 60 for trade maybe both depending on what we can agree upon.
A fair trade would be a 60 series between $7000-5000 lowest (see below). I will not pay cash towards trade, but would take a lower valued 60 and some cash for the 40.
My 40. https://forum.ih8mud.com/chit-chat/429693-my-40-made-into-months-petersens-4wd-reader-rides.html
SOA
Flipped front and rear springs
60 series front axle, ignition, and steering
Lock Right Lockers front and rear
SM 420 with Dana 18 T case (was planning a terra low for it)
Engine runs super strong. Over 100,000
OBA (MV 50 with tank and connects front and rear)
Full cage
4 point harnesses
CB
Have a folding rear bench seat
Hard top
Modified Warn YJ sliders
35" BFGS spied MUDs with new spare
Winch works but it's a Bellview that needs parts
Cruises at 60 mph true without any issues.
Bunch of other goodies.
The bad:
Front driveline is serviceable but cobbled together from spares. Works fine, but speeds over 20 mph in 4 wheel and there's vibration.
No parking brake (planning line locks)
Interior is spartan but seats are from a Civic and could use cheap seat covers.
body is trimmed for wheel clearance and there are a few dings and dents and the paint is serviceable.
Needs larger jets in carb. Runs best with choke out a little bit (but what 40 doesn't?)
Speedometer isn't connected. Needs aftermarket, but I will provide a Garmin GPS V to use as a speedometer.
I wouldn't feel like I am cheating anyone to post a for sale price of $7,000 as a starting point.
It runs great and goes where I want it to. I love this rig, but I would save a lot of expenses if I sold my DD FJ Cruiser and traded the 40 to drive and wheel a 60 series.
The link with a picture is enough for those interested to get an idea and I am happy to send more pictures on request.
