I am trying to find a replacement voltage regulator for my 1978 FJ40 which was built in October of 1977. It has a solid state voltage regulator made by TRANSPO number IN568. I would like to replace both the alternator (Nippondenso 27020-61013) and the voltage regulator at the same time. I am having a hard time finding a solid state external regulator with the appropriate green plug etc. My research has turned up a Wagner built one (WO95-10) but, upon calling Wagner learned that they have discontinued the part. Any help would be very much appreciated.

See your new here. Welcome, Check with @ToyotaMatt who will most likely reach out to you now. IF he isn't able to help, look at city racer llc website and cruiser outfitters. All great sources for things you may need!
Cheers

Study the connector on the regulator closely - in '77 and '78, the voltage regulators changed dramatically. If Matt has it, it will be an OEM Toyota part, not an aftermarket one. My 7/78 FJ40 has the larger plug version with more pins than the earlier style.

I have a 2/79 fj40 with an external voltage regulator. @ToyotaMatt at VintageTEQ had what I was looking for. I just received my order.

3-wire green plug alternator 27020-61100
Large green oval plug Voltage regulator 27700-54040-84

Only observable differences are the cases are a little different and the location of the capacitor changed from the voltage regulator to on the alternator.

thank you so much! I just ordered a voltage regulator and alternator from Neil so I think my problems are solved. I will keep your contact information if things don't work out. thanks again, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your support and offer to help me out, thanks again.

For clarification:
5/'78 to 7/'80 FJ40 uses 27700-24020-84 voltage regulator
8/'76 to 4/'78 FJ40 uses 27700-60100 voltage regulator

The 27700-24020-84 voltage regulator is still available from Toyota dealerships.
The 27700-60100 voltage regulator is discontinued and very hard to find.
