Is it possible to link a rear view camera into the voice navigation screen on the LCs. There is a chronic shortage of room on the front dash for the other neccessities of life. Trailer Brake controllers, mobile phones UHF radios and alike. Any thoughts?

2006 is linked.

Ok, this is new to me. Are you saying that the rear camera view can be brought up by using the voice command? If so, what is the command, camera?

No that's not what they're saying, although you're question wasn't clear.

The camera is linked to the screen when the vehicle is put in reverse.

It is not linked to the VR.

I see, I read it wrong. I was under the impression that you could trigger the camera by using the voice command on the nav.

Nope. In fact, I think they intentionally made it impossible to use the camera unless you're in reverse. You can turn off the camera while in reverse, but you can't turn it on if you're not.

Got you! I sure someone out there could figure out a hack to get the camera to kick on demand. I can't really think of any uses for it (besides while backing up) but it sure would be cool! :grinpimp:

Any clues as to how it is done?

The backup camera is normally turned on by the 12V signal from the reverse lights, I have been all over the "hidden" diag menus, (there are 2 that I know of), and havent yet found a way to turn it on otherwise. I had planned to one day install a small toggle switch to put 12V on the signal wire, which would trick the camera into thinking the cruiser was in reverse, but havent got around to it. I know this will work because I had tapped a full time 12v wire by mistake on install, and the camera would stay on unless I selected a nav function.

Oooo...why stop at just installing a relay and switch to see what is behing you? 3 additional cameras at north, east, and west, with a 4 way video source switch and you could be your own spotter.

I can, think of a convertable full of hot, college girls in bikini's heading to the beach. They are tailgating you, so you switch the camera on, get a good look and try not to crash. :grinpimp:

I did this on my Kenwood unit. It works great.

When towing it would be good to flick it on occasionally to see if the load is still tied on or has moved or the ropes have slackened etc.

my thinking too, since I cant really see my 16' tandem axle trailer over the tailgate.

Is there an easy method of connecting the camera into the circuitary of the Nav screen on a '05 100 series Sahara TD if the vehicle is not already fitted with a rear view camera

How come you missed out on that if you own a Sahara dinibili? I want the original camera in mine but they want $1300 for it , then it needs to go through an amplifier or something$$$$$$$, in OZ we get ripped off every tick of the clock!!

The Camera was never offered as a part of the package. By your comments I assume that it is offered eslewhere in the world. I was offered the reversing detectors which I declined. Do Toyota have one to fit and if they do where does it connect into the system. If theirs does then maybe another type may do?
