Understood. I was curious if you've confirmed compatibility with the different years as the remotes and ECU's were updated. There are at least two different remotes and 3-5 ECUs in the North American market for the 100 series.

I am not sure I understand. I dont think the immobilizer and the key fob remote use the same ecu. I have 2 different ecus programmed with my keys to start the LX. I programmed the key fob with the original ecu installed. I changed to the other ecu with the new eeprom and didn't reprogram the fobs, but they still work.

Haha. Wish my wife felt that way. Did you get your chip swapped?

I have my spare ECU and your chip on my desk on the to do list. This year got away from me. :)

I can understand that, went by way too fast.
Just wondering. I mailed out quite a few chips, haven't heard back from anyone yet.

Your videos are excellent as well. Can you post those here for other members, I forgot what thread they were in.

Thanks. They are on the first page of this one.

I'm not concerned about the remote unlock/lock, but rather the remote immobilizer programming. It looks like yours works well with the early ECU and remote. They updated the ECUs and the remotes, I think in 03~04. I'm wondering if your chip swap works the same in the newer updated remote and ECU. I would think so, but can't be sure until someone's tried it.

I know the eeprom can be changed on the 03 and up. I am pretty sure it has its own ecu box seperate from the engine ecu. It is a different chip that stores a little more info, but still as easy to program. I have the virgin files for these years, but no chips.

On the newer style you can reset the immobilizer with Techstream fairly easily. Its a lot easier than pulling the ecu.

I have an 04 with only the valet key, and the emergency card key. Would I be able to program a new master key with just techstream?

You can check, but I think the emergency key is a master. Insert it and see if the security light stays on for a second then turns off, or if it turns off right away, if so it is a master and you can delete and add keys easily with Techstream.

I googled a picture and it looks like you are going to want to hold the card together with the key while you insert it to check if it is a master.

Ok, great info, thank you!

I hope I was able to answer your questions. It's not hard for me to show somebody how to do something, but I have a real hard time explaining things.

You definitely answered it! I think you explained it well.

I'm trying to collect all the scattered knowledge on these key systems so I can write up and post a comprehensive article on the issue. I think lots of people get stuck paying the dealership a lot for a new ECU or paying a locksmith a huge service fee just to re-pair a key.

I had heard that some people could add a key to the ECU (without an existing master), but never understood how that was possible for some and not others. From your comment it sounds like that might just be the 03/04+ vs pre 03/04 difference.

Good.

Yeah, I know anything before 2003 at one time we were told reflashing was not possible, then a couple of years later it was possible, but became a guarded secret.

It is actually a simple process to flash the eeprom. I found a way to do it cheap and just want to make the info avaliable.

I now have eeproms with the virgin immobilizer program written to them.

I installed one in an extra ecu and was able to add keys to it and start my LX.

It looks like this will be the cheapest way to virginize your ecu to accept keys. These work in my 1998 LX470 and I am pretty sure it is the same for Land Cruisers and LX 470s 1998-2000 maybe later.

Anybody have just a valet key? If you are able to remove the chip from your ecu and solder this one on you can make your key a master and add more keys. Or if you know a computer repair person this is an easy swap for them.

Ive got a few of these to give away to anyone that only has a valet key and want to give one a try.
Do you have any more of the chips? I only have the valet key and would like to program a few master keys.

If you ever have any questions ask away. I've pretty much got the key problems figured out. I too would like to do some kind of write up putting all the info in one place, but I am not really very good at the explaining part. If you ever want to put something together let me know.

Just purchased an 03 LC that, come to find out through MUD, only has a functioning Valet Key. (Gray, buttonless, security light stays on for 1-3 seconds before turning off, won't lock glove box) I do have the remnant of what I believe was the master key (Does lock glovebox). It's only the cut key portion, PO carried it while cycling, and only used it to gain access to the locked vehicle. It no longer has a chip attached.

So, I am curious what my options are for creating a Master Key.

Since yours is 2003 the ecu can be reset onboard. You will need Techstream and a passcode. If you have Techstream I can help with the rest.
