Not wanting to hijack other posts I thought to make this new one.

Post your camping pics from days of yore :bounce: (cruisers optional)

I have been camping since I was an embryo, but my dad didn't take a lot of pictures of vehicles & campsites back then - mostly landscapes and people pictures as film developing was expensive and car pics apparently weren't that important to him.

My dad took hundreds of pictures every year, but was not able to digitize them all before he passed.

These are some that he did . . . post up some of yours!

My earliest photographed camping trip 1963 - car camping with no tents & just blankets

I couldn't find any pictures of our first large Coleman Cabin tent, but this tent trailer replaced the tent. Not to different from a roof-top tent or the new fancy off-road trailers. I am sitting at the picnic table.

This trailer replaced the tent trailer. We towed this trailer behind three different vehicles - Datsun pickup truck, Datsun station wagon, and 74 Toyota FJ-55 Land Cruiser.

I still have this axe head (lower right) - it has had at least seven handle since this picture and had made me bleed several pints of blood and caused one urgent care visit.

Finally some Land Cruiser pics :bounce:

We towed the same camping trailer with a 67 horsepower Datsun pickup truck, a 97 horsepower (I think) Datsun station wagon, and then our "Monster" 1974 Toyota FJ-55 Land Cruiser

Great pictures. I guess you got the idea of camping in the car from dad at an early age. The inside of the 50's vintage Chevy was probably a lot bigger inside than the Taco or the 40.

is the 40 pictured the same one you drive toady?
Yup - that is my brother moving his 12 X 60 mobile home with the 40. I try to not drive it too toady tho

Totally hip pics! Loved seeing them my folks and I did a trip out West in ‘75 and I never forgot that trip. Vowed to move West and finally got here in 2006!

My grandfather had one of those Datsun trucks too. I don’t remember the year the catalytic converters became standard, but do remember my grandad cutting one out of his brand new Toyota truck and replacing it with a piece of pipe. He didn’t like the govt telling him he had to do anything.:hillbilly: I loved that old man. Grandpa, I’ll see you again someday.

So cool to see those old pictures and to see the 40 running great on the rug road!

My sister sold the 79 Toyota pickup to me - it was my first camping vehicle. I had a fully carpeted bed and camped all over the US with it. This truck is still parked in my yard, although it has not run in quite a while.

Man I love that Datsun 510 Wagon! Great pics Steve, what great memories!

Since I was the youngest I had to ride in the back of the station wagon with the dog.

No seat, no seatbelt!
