in MT, I had a vin # that had 1 digit dropped when the title came in the mail. I had to fill out a form and have a someone with a state badge. sheriff deputy, police officer, state warden, etc.
He verified the correct vin on frame # and vin plate, filled it out correctly and sent it in and the new title had the correct # on it. My state still reconizes vin's with less than 17 digits.

The VIN numbers may not match so you need to check!

Through research and my own FJ45 title experiences, I have found that there are many different ways the DMV's can use a VIN number to make up a title number that has as close to the 17 digits they require.

There have been title VIN's that did not have the "F" of FJ45 in them, one with the two digit model year before the FJ45, one with a one digit build year before the FJ45, and one with the two digit model year and the one digit build year before the FJ45.

I suggest to all that you double check your title VIN numbers to make sure they match your VIN plate numbers and match your frame numbers. If there is any dicrepancies on the title get them fixed now just as 3_puppies had to do.

Then take a high quality picture of both the frame numbers and the VIN plate as well as pictures of every angle of your truck including any parts added on or special braces welded on that would distinguish it from others, should the frame numbers or VIN plate mysteriously disappear when the truck does.

This is just in case you ever need them for future reference, as in, if your truck ever gets stolen and you discover after the fact that the VIN numbers do not match up!! The DMV or the Police LIEN or LEADS Systems can only find exact matches!!
