I’m using the Toyota vin decoder (link below) and it keeps telling me my vin is “invalid”. I can’t imagine it’s not coming up with anything because it’s a Canadian truck? It works for my US imported 100, but not the CDN 4Runner. I’m trying to get the specific options etc that it has. Vin is: JT4VN62M1K00361xx if anyone else wants to see if they can get it to work. Just make up a couple of random numbers for the last two, and if you can get it to take it as a valid vin, I’ll throw out the last 2.

I can't get it to work either. One thing that is interesting to me though is the 3rd digit.

Unless I am mistaken, aren't pickups typically JT4, and 4runners JT3?

No trouble getting that VIN to work in ToyoDIY.com. Shows an '89 4Runner GLX, manuf date 1/89, 3VZ V6 engine, imported to Canada. It can't seem to decode which transmission it has though.

Thanks KLF. I’ll try that one.

First Gen 4Runners were imported as pickups (to avoid tariffs) since the top was essentially a fibreglass canopy. Some even came with no rear seats. That’s probably why it’s a 4. My 100 is JT3xxxxxxxxx

My Canadian vin works in Toyota DIY, like KLF said. Most of the part numbers from the site match up at Canadian dealers like Pattison. Sadly, prices don't usually match.

I got it to work on that one. There is more info on the Toyota site, but it doesn’t really matter. I’ve ordered a few little things from Peace Arch already. I know this one has been in Vancouver and Whiterock it’s whole life with only two owners. The guy I bought it from lives 3 minutes from me, and gave me a stack of receipts 1/2” high. The first three I pulled and looked at showed he spent $11,000 on it in the last 20,000 miles. Other than the typical rear fender rust, I’m pretty happy with it!

Just as an update... I asked the dealer to run the vin to check for recalls (head gasket for free would be good!) and they couldn’t get anything to come up either! Very weird!
