After seeing a bit about 2000 transmission failures in this board, I saw some questions asked about the vibration in the l/h gear shifter. Mine constantly vibrates all the time. It is a 2000. I test drove a 2001 in which it constantly vibrated as well.

Is this how it is supposed to be?

mine does on a brand new truck. i'm pretty sure that in pretty much any vehicle with the H-N-L mini shifter it'll vibrate. at least any vehicle i've been in.

Yeah, it's normal. I am pretty sure it is due to the transfer case being utilized everytime you drive your LC. Thus the fulltime 4WD. :D

They all vibrate. That stick is going into the transfer case, which is being used all the time. It's not an electronic shifter connected by cables or rods like the tranny shifter.

If anyone has found a way to reduce the buzz it does at times, I'd be interested to hear your ideas. All my LCs have had this to some extent and it's annoyed me ever so slightly ever since I had my first LC.

I use the shifter to store my handicap placard when its not in the window. While driving the placard gets excited by the shifter vibrations and it sounds like a big bug stuck in the window...

I must have something wrong with mine because it does't vibrate at all. There is no movement or noise that I can see or hear. If you put your hand on it you can feel a vibration.

That is the vibration I am talking about. Nothing I can see or hear either.

This is the degree of vibration I have (you definitely can feel it, but can't see/hear it).

same here.

Notwithstanding qualms about transmission failures, I see this vibration issue quite differently.

I actually like that the transfer case lever is directly connected to the tranny system, not by linkage and cables (acceptable) or by electronic switch (what is that, a Vitara?).

The vibration, and the occasional bite that my hand receives when I shift this lever a bit too eagerly, reminds me that my 100 series is not a total pink panty powderpuff car, but a heavy duty offroad vehicle beneath all those cupholders.

OK I admit I'm a bit exagerating with the 'Buzz'... It's just that I tend to empty my pockets there and if there's the tiniest bit of junk nearby, it vibrates, especially at certain RPMs, can't remember which ones though. It's not that annoying.

Maybe the boot should have a gel-like collar around the lever for better damping... Just a thought.

Damn. Best newby post in a LONG time.

Mine doesn't make any noise, but I sure can feel the engine when I put my hand on it. I like it. It's the same in both of mine.
