vehicle access to a RTT?

I've got an fj62 and am in process of putting a westfalia pop-top on. In planning this it's been a lot more work than I thought. Has anyone ever modified a RTT so you could access it from the interior of your rig? I would think you could add a slightly larger sunroof for access? For those of you familiar with a RTT, could this even be done or would it affect the integrity of the RTT?

wow.. that's a concept...right there... I dont think it would affect the integrity of the RTT in any way + or -.

but I think unless you got a whole big enough (sunroof) to squeeze through the roof of the cruiser it would work.. my 60 does not and I wouldn't want to make one either....



If I where yah.. I would continue on the Westfalia pop-top route....
It might me more work, but I think it will only yield better results in the end...... less weight on the top is the first benefit that pops in my head.

Good point. We just got back from Cruise Moab and some of the rigs with RTT's looked a little tippy to me on the off-camber sections.

If I had the coin.. I would spend it on a carbon fiber tent.

If I had the time, space abd $$ i would try and do what your doing..... good luck....and post pics !!

Ever since I did my frame swap I have had that tippy feeling even with my RTT on the truck...but then again I only overland on my rig....

This is a mod I have been thinking about for years!

the plan was always to get the INTI rack and RTT. Then mod the floor of the INTI to match the sunroof of the LX. then cut out the floor of the RTT to match the sunroof. Then sew in some tent material that drops down into the cab of the LX thru the sunroof basically making a pass thru. I can picture so many uses for this. Particularly during rain.

I don't remember where but, google might find it but, I have come across a 2-3rd gen stunner build a few times where they did a custom version of the westy top (all aluminum iirc) think they were in Doichland (sp) it was pretty slick and the fab work was unbelievable.
