I strongly recommend a map. good options are the bc backroads map book southwest BC edition or the Chilliwack and Lilloet Ministry of Forest District road maps or 1:50000 topo maps. The backroads map book is the bible for backroads driving in BC and a good idea if you plan to leave the group to get out although the route out will be pretty straightforward.

Semlin. Dunno if you have ever used the MapArt road atlas's, but the British Columbia Road Atlas Back Roads edition is a great book for the vehicle, and I've found in some cases better then the Backroads mapbooks. Many fuel stations seem to carry it. One book covers all of BC.

Well I agree that we should stick to the trail that permits the most people to come. I am up for either trail so really whatever everyone wants to do Ill be there however if one of the trails has more side trails that connect or a hard trail that has bypasses then i would prefer that one. Im not looking for anything stupid crazy as i am not even locked nor do i have sliders but Im used to wheeling all summer in CO and AZ so some rocks would be fun. The girl and I will be camping regardless where ever so if we drive further its no biggy. As far as gear is considered I will bring what i can but there are somethings i dont have with me so hopfully between all of us that are going will haev everything.

thanks
mike

a snot nosed kid waiting for xmas..

I'm up for following the crowd on this one. I'm picking up my truck from Outback Friday as in brand new to me - I've wheeled the 40 but I'll likely bypass the canopener with the 80. (only mod is a lift) My GF and I will be camping also and looking forward to our first night in the RTT.

Keep us posted on the meeting place - I can't ****ing wait for this weekend! :bounce2: :bounce:

Any suggestions on where to pick up a decent snatch strap and hi-jack? I'm in the Whack.

Thanks and really looking forward to meeting everybody :flipoff2:

dieseldan, princess auto or any 4wd shop will have a snatch strap. Get at least 20,000 lbs and preferably 30,000 lbs. you want a 48" hi-lift or jackall, not a generic brand, but don't worry too much about getting a jack for this trip as hopefully enough of the rest of us will have one. BTW, you are a brave man to take your truck offroad the day after you get it. has outback prepped your truck in terms of fluid changes and doing the BEB? If you break down you'll probably have to make a deal with the loggers up there to lowbed you out to the highway which could be spendy.

Yeah the 80 will have the standard OSP:

And have added Extreme Valve Body upgrade, Class 3 Hitch, Aero Exhaust, Snorkel and some gauges I won't have time to install till later.

But what do you think? I will take it out for a few hours of bumps to be sure before leaving, but also have to mount the RTT which means cutting away part of my rack. (and the brush bar is gone)

I don't think I'll have any issues with the roads back there and I'm not about to do the canopener but I bought this truck to play with and trips like this will help in planning future mods!

yes, that looks fine! that is quite a pre-purchase package there. very impressive.

off topic, is there a thread/link somewhere elaborating on the extreme valve body upgrade they offer? Is it a 442F tranny? I thought you had to drop the tranny to do that.

if any one is intrested i have a rear hatch tent that fits an 80 series i could bring along if any one wants to sleep in there 80. i got it this summer and its never been used. ill prolly sell it soon as i dont need it any more.

I'm going to follow the crowd as far as the route is concerned, and I'm planning on camping.

Semlin, do you want to meet me a few mintues early and we can get your RTT up on yours?

ok, sounds like the plan is to do the harrison-boston bar route.

we will meet at the esso station at the junction of highways 7 and 9 at harrison hot springs road at 8:30 am.

to figure out how to get there go to www.mapquest.com and google your destination as harrison hot springs. If you are coming from the Sumas border crossing turn onto the transcanada hwy 1 eastbound and go past chilliwack and take the agassiz/harrison hot springs exit, cross the bridge over the fraser and follow the signs through downtown agassiz towards harrison hot springs. the esso station is a short way past agassiz at the intersection with harrison hot springs road. when you get there you'll need to gas up.

if for any reason you miss us we will be heading up the east side of harrison lake past sasquatch parl. it is not hard to figure out as it reduces down to one dirt road and if you stay on that road you should be able to catch up to us.

by my count i see me, dieseldan, lx450 and montana as confirmed campers, riley and enigma as one day likelies, then canadianrig, Kim and a guy named Dan who posted on another thread as maybes.

Nate, I suggest we meet at the esso at 8:15am to deal with the RTT.

here are some details on the route

We will take the East Harrison FSR leaving pavement from Sasquatch park just past harrison hot springs north along the lake shore past the logging camp past the clear creek turn off, through the washout and all the way to the kookipi FSR turn off then through to the Nahatlatch River valley which feeds down to the fraser river to the bridge at Boston Bar where you will return to the pavement at which point it's about 90 miles back to Abbotsford with the first part through the fraser canyon.

Not counting side trips it's about 75 miles of logging road most in decent repair.

We will likely camp in the Nahatlatch Valley at a rec site unless a good spot presents itself along the Kookipi canyon.

there are numerous side routes we can explore.

there are a couple of homesteads along the first part big silver creek but basically nobody lives in this area. there may or may not be an active logging camp in the kookipi area. hopefully not as it is a pretty wild place.

Morning'

I camped at the Nahatlatch Rec. Site just over a month ago - I think this would be an excellent choice as it is right on the lake, awesome tall tree coverage to cut the winds and the scenery is great. It's also about 40 minutes drive out to Boston Bar if anyone forgot to bring something or wanted to hang out then head out home.

... and no one came 'round to collect any fee's so money saved for

I am planning on attending for the day only. However, I don't have: radio, map, or hi-lift.

I also don't have a job:frown: , so I am not thrilled about running out and purchasing said items...the gas expense will be enough!

I'm gonna head to where my '40 is stored and grab my tow strap and some other stuff. I'm really hoping someone else is going for the day, and I can just follow them out.

so, barring being 'banned':D for not having enough equipment...I'll be there!

you'll have no problems at all getting out - I'll see about photo-copying a forestry map of that basin.. when I was there last time we had the volvo wagon from Boston Bar in to the Rec. site - should be a piece of cake with the rigs.

ok well does someone else have a hi-lift? otherwise i could bring an extra 3' jackall i'll bring with me so we have at least 2 which is kind of a minimum

canadian rig, depending on your timing you would either be backtracking or splitting with us to go to boston bar by the route dieseldan just described. either way it will be hard to get lost.

it was zero celsius this morning in vancouver by the water so dress warm for this trip folks!

Thursday - 2-4cm of snow - Friday-Saturday-Sunday Rain Lows 6 Highs 10 and I beleive those are daytime... wouldn't be at all surprised if we see at least wet snow.

pack some good 'ol emergency Fireball for bedtime! :D

I dont have a high lift either as it broke last trail run in az and i had planned to get a new one at some point but havent gotten around to it. nor will i be able to before the run (damn mid terms) any who looks like will have some cold weather camping which im still up for (test out the tent) Im sure for those of you that dont have all the items above as long as your on time and run with the pack we should all be able to cover eveyone. from the sounds of it this isnt a hard core trail. we already specified that we will only be going places that a stock 80 can go so no worries. just bring what you can esspecially warm clothing, water, and food.
