I opened the valve cover today on my 1HD-T to measure the valve clearances and see if they are off. When measuring my 1st, 2nd, 11th, and 12th valves had no clearance beneath them, and all others did. I could not even spin the valves underneath some of them when in the correct top-dead-center position. Is this bad? and how would I even measure them? Thanks

Yes, it's not great.

You need to put thinner shims in those buckets, and re-measure to calculate which shims you ultimately need

Not good. perform a leak down test, on the tight valves you'll have to remove the shim so the valve can close all the way and you can get a accurate result. You might have burned valves, if the valve can't close all the way that's when they burn. While your engine is running at temperature the clearance will be even less.

Just to be clear: You're rotating the crank and measuring each cylinder when the cam lobes are up correct? Not trying to measure every valve with engine at TDC? Just double checking because the written word can be a bit vague.

If the truck is running all right, I would get the valves adjusted properly and then move on to leak down and other tests. They're tough engines in general.

Yeah your right i did a stupid. I read the manual wrong. They all were out of spec but I could get a feeler under all of them now. Thanks!
