So I am taking of the fenders for my 81 bj42 to replace them and I pop off one of the vacum lines from the Alt to the inner fender and oil comes out of it. Does this mean the pump is bad ? The power brakes still work.

Thanks, Myrle

just curious.....this is a vacuum line and not a oil line going to the pump? It has a oil px and return line, plus the vacuum lines.

But you may know that. if it is a vacuum line sorry I cannot help.

yes it is the vacuum line, it comes out of the back of the pump, goes from there to the firewall and then down to the canistor below the drivers feet. it looped down before going to the firewal and the oil was only in that part of the line.

Weird.

there is oil lubracation lines that go to the pump, maybe you have excessive scoring that is allowing the oil into the vacunn assembley?
just a guess...

I know that the PO did rebuild the Alt just before I got the truck, IMO its is not very serious at this point. As we say in AK. if it is fishing don't @&@&@&@& with it.

Veins might have been damaged too? Or asWayne suggest the housing might be scored. You can pull the pump off the back and check. Be careful putting it back on, as you can damage the veins.

There is a check valve that should not allow oil through. Do the suck/blow on the tube from the pump housing to see if it is working.
