Just wondering if it would be possible to drop a V-8 from a 100 in a 1996 cruiser ? got 127,000 on it now and still going strong, just thinking about one day. It would be nice to have more power in the "BIG" girl. I saw a supercharger for $3,500, but could you get your moneys worth supercharging a straight-6 with 100,00+ on it? What about a grey market diesel?

It's possible and it's nearing completion. It's a 92 FJ80 with a 2UZ from a Tundra, the Tundra auto tranny and a Marlin Rock Box.

I'd mentioned it awhile back, still don't want to steal the guy's thunder that's done the project, but he says it's awesome and fast.

buy a used supercharger, or wait till your 1FZ-FE actually dies. If you wait on the second, it may be awhile.

Plan on doubling the cost of a SC for a V8. Just regear to 4.88 and 33'-35' tires for the extra pep.

I don't think the engine would cost 6K$. I bet you could find one for the price of a supercharger if you wanted too, and were patient.

But the 'extra' costs of puting an engine in would be more than the superchargers associated costs. You will need to buy all the hoses, which may or may not fit in the LC engine bay, adapters, maybe custom engine mounts, etc... lots of little things.

I think the Tundra V-8, or the Lexus V-8 (with associated turbo kit from Rod Millen enterprises...) would be bad assssssssssssssssssssss.

My supercharged 80 compares very favorably to the power in our V8 100 series.

Acquiring parts for the installation and when something breaks is the big problem with this option.

I love the idea of the Toyota V8 in the 80 but a more practical solution for many people would be a Chevy V8 swap. The easiest though is the TRD S/C bolt-on option. It's a proven combination and the average mechanic can have the thing installed with no surprises (adapters, hoses, special harnesses, ECU changes, custom fabrication, etc.) Most people can do the S/C in a weekend with time to play with it before Monday morning.

Take it from someone who has done one of these swaps, get the supercharger. You can spend alot of time with freinds and family having fun or you can be the guy that everyone knows at the parts store. I put a turbo on my 80 and it performs well enough that I don't have those terrible V8 thoughts anymore. I have come to this conclusion from building and owning my 76 FJ40 which has a Chevy 350 TBI with a cam made for the TBI fuel system, larger injectors, aluminum radiator,4" lift, 35" M\T's, Air lockers, 700R4 auto with overdrive, Short Jeep style 300 Dana t-case, Dana 60 rear axle with FJ40 outer hubs and disc brakes, Renegade grill guard and rear tire\cooler carrier, full roll cage, aux fuel tank, shackle reversal, power steering, air conditioning plus lots more that all works. I built a M715 for my wife that is the same. Right after I finished these projects my wife somehow got pregnant. Then she got pregnant twice more. 2 sets of twin boys and a single one in the middle. All 5 years old and under. I started the 40 last week but have not driven it in a year. Why would I with an 80 around? Don't tempt fate brother.....

Thanks for the input brothers, I'll check around for a used supercharger. Thinking about a mild lift also. Gotta love a land cruiser. The guys at the firestation still talk about the time (last winter) when I pulled a mustang out of the ditch, while setting on a road covered with ice. "Man, you did'nt even spin the tires, what you got under the hood?" Gotta love it!
