Nope.

I think you hit your head when you got out of bed this morning, you are in a fantasy land. The rest of the world has diesel cruisers of many variations. Not in North America.

I wish I could get a diesel FJ............I'd be savin money at the pump for the life of the thing.

and then convert it to run on veggie oil

I heard rumors of the 2010 model but even then it's speculation. The Toyota D4D already runs in the Prado's over in Oz so fitment wouldn't be an issue. I'm sure there will be a premium to be paid to have one here though. In the meantime I'll wait and cross my fingers

Diesel Fan

If they offered the FJ with a diesel I would'nt be spending all this money fixing up a 79 BJ-43 ! Then again I really don't like that stupid rear door on the FJ. I think a two part door with a tailgate would have made much more sense

I work for BMW and they wouldn't sell their diesels in the US until they could sell them in all 50 states. That's happening this year but it takes a mighty far advanced system to pass California and that's even with the new low sulphur diesel fuel spec.
I'd be surprised if Toyota gets there before 2010. BMW usually is about one or two generations ahead of the Orientals in engine tech.
I hate it too. I'd trade my C if I could get diesel. I work at the factory and practically all the Euro X5's we make are diesel. I drive them every day (roll booth) and the 6cyl 3.0 diesel feels every bit as strong as the 4.5 V8 gas engine, but I believe the fuel mileage approaches 150%.

Cummins is supposed to bring out a light weight 4 cylinder, I think for Jeep. Im sure about the engine but not the application.

Yeah foxtrot6, it's .60 higher than gasoline but the fact still remains ,one get's about 40% more fuel economy with diesel than gasoline. Not to mention, French Fry/Veggie oil!

Add some propane and you go really far!

See ya,

This is my money saving argument foxtrot......yeah it may cost more for the engine and a little bit more at the pump but the conversion to alternate fuel sorces in the long run will save you TONS. Plus, after all the oil runs out I still want to be able to drive my cruiser and the best way to do that, i think, is to move to diesel as of right now. Might as well kill two birds with one stone.......I just wish it were possible.

I believe Toyota will start rolling out diesel Tundras soon and other models will follow. I think the price is more of a concern than anything else. A diesel FJC might price itself out of the target market.

Diesel is going to be mainstream. Honda Accord diesel is coming next year and others are ready to follow suit. VAG also has TDI models and the list will def. grow.

an exciting one is Subaru's Legacy diesel - it is a boxer engine and all-aluminum. Official word is that they are waiting to see how the Accord Diesel does but ready to bring it to the USA.

I don't really care much about the extra cost up front - I want one! My son in law ans daughter just made a trip frpm NJ to KY and got 48-50 mpg in a Getta at 75-80 mph! The Fj won''t do that well but I know it will save me mpney overall. Can't wait!

I hear there are some conversions in the works using International engines from Brazil.
260 HP and can run on fries oil. I can't remember where but I read it in another forum on another 4x4 site. The company is in Canada and are supposed to send me info. But here is some of the stuff about the engine:

International 2.8 four cylinder diesel with a variable vane Garrett turbo, custom intercooler and MINE-X exhaust particulate trap. With 265 pounds of torque, it is fun to drive while delivering 25-30 MPG, on up to 100% bio-diesel!

Those numbers don't quite sound right. 260 HP and 265 ft lbs torque? Maybe 365 ft lbs? Or maybe 160 HP? Those numbers just sound odd for a diesel engine. Those sound more like gasoline engine specs.

Funny Thing about the Subaru Diesel. They keep telling us at training that it is not coming but the diesel engine tools keep showing up at work! Sounds to me that it may be coming. Got to keep the fingers crossed.

If Toyota did bring a diesel FJ to the US I think that would finally convince me to give up the old 80.
