URE Work Day - Saturday, August 20

I am going to try and make it Saturday. This will be my first time going to a club event and taking the LC to Uwharrie.

Couple things:
Should I take off my running boards for anywhere we are going Saturday?

I would like to join the caravan from the Triangle but if y'all go 10 over the whole way my 3FE won't keep up.

Me and a buddy will probably want to camp. What are the rules/options for camping out there?

No need to take off your running boards for the work day or any light wheeling we'll do afterward.

Since you want to join the caravan we won't leave you behind. I don't typically drive any faster than 5 over out there. That is why I would like to leave by 7:15 from the Mobil. That gives us 1.5 hours to get there and a few minutes to hit the Outpost before meeting up at the Hunt Camp.

You are welcome to camp but you might be the only ones. If you are hard core you can camp off the trail but have no facilities and it will be dusty. There are National Forest Campsites available for like $15 a night (need to double check). Here is the official URE camping page.

The weather is looking good for Saturday, maybe a little damp but Saturday is the only day they don't have rain in the forcast.

One or two of my buddies will be coming with me to help out. We will bring a couple shovels, pick axe, and I can bring a chainsaw if you think we will need it. If not I will leave it at home.

Does anyone have recommendations of where to camp on the trail? I have been looking at maps of the trail and trying to find places that look good. I have a map from NC4x4 and from Southeast Overland, any other good maps out there?

Thanks, look forward to meeting you guys.

any other good maps out there?

Yeah the ONSC laminated one... you can buy one at the september event :grinpimp:

As far as camping we all pretty much camp together so no worries finding a spot

Looks like this will be a light work weekend after all. ST8, I will PM you about camping...

Update from Terry:

Hi Everyone - I'm very sorry about the late notice for this month's work weekend. For August 20th - this Saturday, I've heard from Olde North State Cruisers that they will be coming up for this weekend. We're doing a low key work weekend this weekend like we did in July due to budget issues and due to people's work schedules. If your club is planning on coming up please go to Janet Becker's at Arrowhead Campground and pick up tools for cleaning out the tail ditches of the rolling dips, trail markers, hammers, nails, trash bags, etc. and hit the trails. Janet will give me the sign in sheets so I'll get documentation of your volunteer hours.

Olde North State Cruisers - I heard from Clint that you'd have about 5 people coming up this weekend. For this Saturday we need one crew of about 2 folks to go around and install carsonite posts and add the labels to them in a bunch of locations on several trails including Wolf Den. Drew Brown can meet you at 9 am at Wolf Den Trailhead and give you the supplies and then he'd head out with the crew that would be doing that work and he can work with them in the morning until about 11:30. He'll have the list of sites that need signs installed at them. The other folks in your group that can make it can use shovels to clean out tail ditches, get trash bags, trail markers, hammers, nails, etc and do general maintenance and marking of Wolf Den Trail. If you'll need campsites please contact Janet Becker asap so she can get them set for you. Her email is uwharriehost@hotmail.com. Thanks a lot.

Last minute reminder for Saturday's work day... Will be a light work day and we should be able to get in some wheeling in the afternoon.

Clint, do you mean 54 and Farrington Road? I forgot to send the email to reserve the campsite. Is that gonna be an issue?

Actually, you probably mean Farrington Point Road and 64, don't you. Sorry for the confusion, but I've never been there before:D

Not going to make it out there after all. A half day of work has now just turned into a disaster and a full days work.

Sorry guys didn't want to leave you hanging.

Brian can you grab the intercooler for me?

Not to hijack here but Johnny you really need to get some stuff off of me to include maybe part of this stock exhaust. Hate that i missed out here but it should not be too long from now and i can start making all these things.

Glad everyone had a good time out there from the looks of it.

Thanks everyone for coming out. It was great to see some new faces, especially for a trail work day.

 Do you need me to come sooner rather than later? We have some guests coming up for a week so I was thinking I'd come down the weekend of the 3rd.
