since you can only lift a kdss gx470 at a max of 3 inches, does it make sense to upgrade the upper control arms? From my understanding it is primarily for long travel. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Yes, i only run 2" lift but run SPC. It drive so much better with aftermarket UCA. It was a bit squirely when I run 3/4 spacer lift for a few months before the UCA.

3" lift is the max with or without KDSS without lowering the diff and custom control arms. It would top oit too much with standard length coil over.

Go up 3" and you lose a degree or more of caster. So 3 degrees becomes 2-2.5 maxed out. The truck starts to be VERY quick on the steering. Especially with heavier tires with more surface area. Toss on UCAs? Get 3 degrees back. Now you can go out to 3.5-4 degrees and the steering becomes a touch heavier than stock. Camber is easier to set as you are inline with OEM geometry. You can do whatever you like...but I have seen this discussion on day one and 3 months later and almost everyone wanting to save a dime or work with UCAs end up with them anyway because of how much they help in 2"+ lifts.

UCA’s are worth the money. I lifted my v8 4Runner without them and it was super twitchy. When I lifted the GX I went with upper control arms and it drives great!
