I was surfing Facebook and came across an advertisement for diesel led super bright reverse lights. Anybody ever use something like this. I know in some cars changing bulbs to led's can be problematic and not sure if they would heat up and melt the taillight housing.

Might depend on year? I upgraded the reverse lights with LEDs in my old '13 and it worked great, no issues.

That’s way too expensive. These $15 ones from Amazon work perfectly and are easy to install. I made a video recently about swapping them you may find helpful.

How well do those light up what is behind you at night? The ones in my link say they are as bright as headlights, not sure how much I believe that claim, but your amazon ones have similar lumen rating.

How much lighting do you really need from the reverse lights? The camera does a good job as it is, why would you need headlights as reverse lights?

Do any time on a gravel road and in my experience the camera becomes useless from a dust layer.

A few years ago I put LED replacements in my 80 and they were total crap. Have the cheapo amazon parts become any better?

I run these by Auxito and they're plenty bright, at 1200 lumens per bulb (2400lm for the pair?). Fairly blinding if you stand behind the vehicle. ~$15 for a pair.

While you're at it, you can also change all the other halogen bulbs to LED's. License plate lights, turn signals, and side markers are all able to be changed on the '16+ 200 series, and a bunch more on the pre-2016 models (fog lights, interior, etc).

There's a string somewhere on here about "upgrading" reverse lights....I've done it twice. First time one started strobing...second time I went w @mcgaskins suggestion. Yes, they are very bright/very white. Probably the optimal value in reverse LEDs.

But here's the thing...don't know why but the bright white color just doesn't seem to illuminate/throw light any better than the halogens. I really notice it when reversing in rainy weather...stuff behind me (especially the edge of the driveway) just isn't as visible. It's almost like the halogens provide more contrast or something. I was reminded about yellow fogs and yellow driving lights of old (watch some LeMans footage)...maybe that's what is going on?

I'm now convinced the best reverse lamp route is either 1) cut some of the 4 light LED pods (black oak, rigid, etc) into the rear bumper or 2) one of those reverse lamp trailer hitch things, but I really know nothing about them - like this Amazon product ASIN B005BOCV1G

Thanks for info. I really only want to increase visibility when reversing in areas with no lights at nights. Retrofitting some led cubes in the reflector spot in the bumper sounds the best.
