Hey Everyone!

I’ve got stock fog lamps on my 79' FJ40 . They’re running the original H3 12V/35W selective-yellow bulbs. I’m trying to figure out the best way to make them brighter while keeping that classic yellow color.

A couple of questions I’m hoping folks here might know:

  • Did Toyota/Koito ever make a 55W selective yellow H3 bulb that’s a true drop-in replacement?
  • Has anyone here actually run PIAA Ion Crystal, Hella Yellow Star, or Koito 55W yellow H3s in these lamps? How’s the fit and heat in the housings?
  • Are there any modern LED H3 selective yellow bulbs that really fit these housings without trimming or drilling? I keep seeing LED options with short pigtails or external drivers — not sure if they squeeze out of the housing cleanly like the OEM bulb’s little lead wire.
I’d like to keep the lamps looking stock, just brighter and still selective yellow (not amber/orange). If anyone has part numbers or first-hand experience, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!
