So I got an aussie locker...which turns out is for a FRONT diff...not the rear. I guess the paypal link on www.aussielocker.com copied the wrong text over when I misclicked the first time. ARRRRGH!

That and I found out the hard way that my caster is WAAAY off up front with my Gen 1 arms, so I had to get Slee arms (92 pound UPS is heading this way now).

So, I have a reparied rear axle, swapped over to non-elocker...but it is open and using spiders right now...booooo. I will return the aussie, get the right one, have to go BACK in the rear end...booooo.

I also have to repack the front again to install the longfields....booooo.

oh, then I have to adjust panhards, control arms, and replace the front arms once they come in to ship the old ones off to the buyer.

Man, I just want this all to be over with so I can wheel my truck and stop working on it!!

I know, I know....crying in my beer for all the wrong reasons. Just had a frustrating day :)

Dan I feel your pain. Those 80's are classy rides but the suspension on a lifted truck could get complicated. I know it will all be worth the time and expense when you finish and get to the top of schoolbus.

Thx Alan. I have it to 100% of where I want it when I get these things done, so I know it will be worth it. I just had to deal with some complications today while trying to work at the job and taking care of a sick five year old...

I think I went a little nuts for a while! I feel much better now. :)

My memory on this is a little old and hazy, but, I think you
DO order the front Lock Right even when you install it in the rear
for future interchange options. It may be the OTHER way around,
that is order the rear even if for front, but I think it is order the FRONT.
I know nada about 80 axles or Aussies, but there is a prefered
one to order in Lock Right. RD2 or some such number. I'd have to dig up the old files on my install. Have you asked the tech guys if it will work?
Bummer nonetheless.
Good luck. I know you'll get it fixed.

80 series front third members are high pinion and are not interchangeable with the rear. So, I have a problem :) I will fix it with an exchange, just time and a little money wasted!

Thx for the well wishes.

Doh!

LOL....I told ya I know nada 'bout them new fangled 80s.
I just gas and cruise the highways in the Coach. Well,
it does do trail #1, but that's it. ;)
Good luck, I know you will get it done right in spite of
the dummies at the other end of your deal.
Ohm....cruiser,cruiser,cruiser....Ohm

What is cool is that this frustration leads to the end of a road that is a very built truck. Projects left:

- Longfield install up front
- Rear pads, e-brake shoes install
- Slee front radius arm install
- Rear aussie locker install
- Rear panhard adjustment
- Rear control arm adjustment
- Front alignment (toe) after Slee arm install
- Making sure front locker still works :)

Lots of time till GSMTR, but I also have rides all along the way! I need to get to work!

When she is all done I will have four corners of chromoly, 6" of lift, 37" Iroks, lockers front and rear, and a lower chance to break any of the above. I have also discovered that I can be a LOT less aggressive with the Iroks since they stick so much better. That was a HUGE realization at Tellico on Saturday.

Update: the axle is MUCH better in the rear....third is pulled, 4.88s transplanted, new (correct) aussie locker is on the way, new pinion bearing on the way, two new studs on the way...and all the work is paid in full. Once the parts show the cado will be back on the road.

Once I get it back the other list can start shrinking!

All of this over one little hill at Tellico.

Such determination to get over it, were you bullied on the bus as a kid?????? :D

Not just about the hill I am out to finish the 80 for good

Hang in there, Dan. There's light at the end of that tunnel and I suspect you can see it from where you are now.

Yep! Two weeks from only maintaining what i have, no more upgrades, just wheeling and fun.

At least I got the good news that the right aussie is on the way, the studs are on the way, and the inner pinion bearing I need is on the way as well. Slee arms show up on Monday. Looks like I will have a busy friday/sat to get this all done...and steen is coming over for a lift session as well!

Yeah. I am gonna try to get my longfields in on Friday and do the front control arms, rear brakes, and adjustments to the rear control arms and panhard on saturday. If all that goes well I will be set.

Steen is installing his 4" lift on Saturday as well at my place. If you want to do your springs we just need the spring compressors.

Yeah, bring your parts and your spring compressors.
